Today started off a bit tough. I woke up with a headache and a feeling of heaviness that has become familiar every Sunday since I lost my eldest brother to cancer five Sundays ago. The pain of that loss is something I still struggle to put into words, but staying busy has been my way of coping. So I gathered myself to revise a call guide leveraging the script of a webinar we had last week with IDC on data sovereignty. Just a few minutes into the rerun, a message popped up from my colleague saying that the workplace experience team was sending chocolate to my house. It was such a kind reminder to stay grateful, even in the midst of grief and fear. It is easy to get lost in fears about the future, especially when cancer runs in the family and you have witnessed since you were 9 years old the pain it has caused your loved ones, but my daughter’s excitement as we unboxed the treat together brought genuine smiles today. My journey into the IT world began with one purpose: to help find a cure for cancer. I firmly believe that when technology is combined with human empathy, compassion, and unity, it has the potential to do incredible good. Just as past generations gifted us innovations like electricity and communication technologies to improve our quality of life, I hope we never lose sight of the deeper purpose behind technology.

Life moves in phases, and no one is expected to be strong all the time. Today, I want to remind anyone feeling low that resilience is not something you are born with. It is built by being given the chance to face difficult moments, work through them, and rise again. As we learned early in life, what sets humanity apart is our ability to adapt and keep moving forward. If one door closes, there are always others waiting to be explored. Trust the journey, be kind to yourself, and remember that brighter chapters still lie ahead.

It is about bringing the best people together to work as one team, with an owner mindset, to deliver real impact.

Humans are facing many challenges that deserve their attention like early diagnosis, preventive medicine, feeding those in need, and supporting people with disabilities. It feels overwhelming to see resources diverted toward conflicts and wars, killing babies and hopes. It is a stressful time for all of us.

The AI models have grown dramatically since late 2023 with thousands of GenAI tools now on the market and new ones emerging daily. The pace at which new GenAI tools are launched and existing ones updated makes it impossible to keep up. This is why you should be reading and understanding the usage policy of the tool you are deploying. Storing data in your own data centre does not guarantee data sovereignty. AI training and reasoning processes run through servers housed in data centres around the world (meaning your data may cross jurisdictions, fall under foreign laws, and be subject to access requests you never anticipated). Data sovereignty is about: ▫️Controlling which model you use and understanding its governance ▫️Owning your data pipeline (know where it flows, who accesses it and under which terms) ▫️Ensuring your compute infrastructure operates within your local jurisdiction's legal and regulatory framework. Third-party components, APIs, and plugins in your AI stack can introduce hidden sovereignty gaps.
