@RMcCafferty_98 Hoping Tony Skinn had a LOUD halftime message. We know they are a better team than the first half indicated.

Good news: George Mason ends the half on a 7-2 run. Bad news: still down by 10. Too many missed layups and… well, missed everythings. But did see some life finally in those last few minutes. Need more of that.

@RMcCafferty_98 @fcnp @MHSSports121 Good luck with whatever lies ahead, Ryan. Meant the world to a lot of MHS sports families to have our local sports covered with such knowledge & passion. Particularly glad to have your articles as record of the magical 2024-25 season for @MeridianBBB.

We’d like to congratulate senior @willldaviss on reaching 1,000 career points. Will is only the 5th player in Meridian history to do so. A 4-year varsity player, he’s been a key part of our program since freshman year, averaging 11.8 points. Congratulations!

@nickywolcott So sorry for this terrible move by WaPo. What a loss for all of us in the DMV who love sports & care about local news. Special thanks for the terrific story you did last winter on @MeridianBBB ❤️🖤🏀.

Like many others today, my time at The Washington Post is over. It was an absolute dream to share pages with so many past and present greats (and friends!) while working on a team so dedicated to covering local high school sports and the athletes who make them so special here.

Another terrible loss with WaPo sports cut. HS sports coverage has been so great for the DMV. Irreplaceable.

@AshleyRParker Absolutely a miserable day. Took to heart your words at MV Book Festival on need to support WaPo for news side even w editorial capitulation. Harder & harder to justify now. Darkness descends. Ugh.

We are witnessing a murder at The Washington Post. This massacre will be the enduring legacy of Jeff Bezos and Will Lewis and the leadership who stood by. But please read my love letter to the paper that felt like home, and will always be my “we.” ❤️‍🩹theatlantic.com/politics/2026/…

@spencernusbaum_ Can’t imagine DC fandom without coverage in The Post. For me 50+ years of loving brilliant writing on all from Sonny Jurgensen to Jayden Daniels, Elvin Hayes to Bradley Beal, arrival of Stras & retirement of Zimm. And the incomparable Ovi… plus great coverage of HS & college

Anyways, yeah. This is an incalculable loss for the region and sports journalism. It will be jarring to wake up in the morning — in one of the biggest metro areas in the country — and not have a sports section (and so many other great parts of The Post) to turn to.

I was laid off by The Washington Post today. This is gutting for our readers and our section, but I’m grateful for the 4 years I had to cover sports alongside friends and legends. If you’re hiring or know of someone who is: spencernusbaum(at)gmail(dot)com

I was among the many sports reporters laid off by The Washington Post today. Feeling a lot of gratitude for my time working for this paper. Not looking back. Looking ahead to what’s next!

@dougherty_jesse Thank you for sharing so much good work illuminating our beloved DC franchises but also the larger world of sports. It’s been a pleasure reading over the years & hope you find a good next platform. Shame shame on The Post.

Well, turns out this was my last story for The Washington Post, 2,011 bylines later. For nine years, it was a dream in every sense of the word, no matter how many of the company's leaders tried to make it otherwise. Thanks for being part of the ride.

@chelsea_janes This breaks my heart. Was willing to stick w Post when mad about (lack of) editorial freedom. Excellent reporting & writing is so critical in today’s world. You’ve done great work in baseball & politics; I am so appreciative. “Democracy dies in darkness” huh? Lights flickering.

I, like so many people I respect and love, was laid off today. What an incredible honor it was to spend 12 years there. I am so grateful for everyone who read and encouraged and lived seasons with us. I am so sad the Post sports family won’t be there to live it with you again.
