Like many others today, my time at The Washington Post is over. It was an absolute dream to share pages with so many past and present greats (and friends!) while working on a team so dedicated to covering local high school sports and the athletes who make them so special here.

Another terrible loss with WaPo sports cut. HS sports coverage has been so great for the DMV. Irreplaceable.

@spencernusbaum_ Can’t imagine DC fandom without coverage in The Post. For me 50+ years of loving brilliant writing on all from Sonny Jurgensen to Jayden Daniels, Elvin Hayes to Bradley Beal, arrival of Stras & retirement of Zimm. And the incomparable Ovi… plus great coverage of HS & college

Anyways, yeah. This is an incalculable loss for the region and sports journalism. It will be jarring to wake up in the morning — in one of the biggest metro areas in the country — and not have a sports section (and so many other great parts of The Post) to turn to.

Well, turns out this was my last story for The Washington Post, 2,011 bylines later. For nine years, it was a dream in every sense of the word, no matter how many of the company's leaders tried to make it otherwise. Thanks for being part of the ride.

@chelsea_janes This breaks my heart. Was willing to stick w Post when mad about (lack of) editorial freedom. Excellent reporting & writing is so critical in today’s world. You’ve done great work in baseball & politics; I am so appreciative. “Democracy dies in darkness” huh? Lights flickering.

I, like so many people I respect and love, was laid off today. What an incredible honor it was to spend 12 years there. I am so grateful for everyone who read and encouraged and lived seasons with us. I am so sad the Post sports family won’t be there to live it with you again.
