Totally normal day for Gen X. And I just can’t stop laughing at how the media spent YEARS telling us: - China hated Elon - Trump was “finished” - America was collapsing - capitalism was dead - and everybody important was abandoning the U.S. Meanwhile, here we are somewhere over the Pacific looking like the cast of Succession meets Top Gun: Retirement Plan Edition. Remember when China sanctioned Marco Rubio back in 2020 and everybody acted like the geopolitical chessboard had permanently shifted? Now suddenly everybody’s still showing up to the table because — shocking development — nations tend to like: - money - technology - manufacturing - trade - AI - energy - semiconductors - and not being economically irrelevant Who knew. The best part is the internet meltdown cycle never changes. Trump: “America needs stronger trade relationships.” Media: “HITLER.” Elon: “I make electric cars, rockets, satellites, AI, and robots.” Internet activists: “Yeah but we posted an angry hashtag.” Cool. I’m sure Beijing is trembling before your TikTok resistance movement. And flying with this group is exactly what you think it would be. Trump walks around the cabin narrating reality like it’s an episode of Lifestyles of the Rich and Geopolitical: “Great flight. Powerful people. Very high IQ. The Chinese are saying they’ve never seen anything like it.” Elon looks like he hasn’t slept since 2019 and is simultaneously calculating orbital trajectories and wondering if the beverage cart could be automated. Meanwhile Jill and I are sitting there like two exhausted Gen Xers who survived dial-up internet, chain-smoking restaurants, lawn darts, and drinking from garden hoses… wondering how in the hell we became side characters in the weirdest timeline imaginable. Honestly, at this point if Trump walked into Beijing blasting “Danger Zone” while Elon live-streamed it from orbit, I wouldn’t even blink. Because the people who told us America was over are still tweeting from iPhones, driving Teslas, using Starlink during hurricanes, and cashing checks tied to the same capitalist machine they claim to hate. Gen X translation: The world’s still running. The adults are still making deals. And the internet is still confusing hashtags for accomplishments. Carry on.

I honestly like Matt. He's a nice guy. His wife, Erin is adorable. His kids are amazing. I have also asked him REPEATEDLY to help us with the GOP in Western North Carolina. It's a shitshow. We had GOOD grassroots candidates running. I know, I recruited them, worked with them, coordinated and even funded them. We also have terrible GOP leadership. They lack enthusiasm, the ability to galvanize the base or do basic candidate vetting for a bench. Instead, they bring in the same old felons/disbarred lawyers, people charged with party disloyalty, wife beaters, and former drug addicts as party officials. We could've used his voice, his organizational skills, and his connections to make *REAL* change here. This isn't a personal attack on Matt. I get it, he's got young kids, family responsibilities, a full time job, and it's a lot to take on. The GOP doesn't make it easy. It's at least a two hour drive to a district meeting for me. It's being around people that cheer for Thom Tillis and stand up for child rapists to be party officials in the bylaws. It's being around people that don't follow the party rules they push on you. They'll cut you off when you have the floor, lie about the rules, and make conventions at the crack of dawn on a weekend so people with kids have to choose between a once in a lifetime time sporting event for their child or a political convention. It's subjecting yourself to being the outcast for standing up against the insanity and still coming on social media to explain the madness to people. It's using unorthodox ways they're too lazy to use-like putting up the recommended candidates for all 100 counties in North Carolina to make sure working people who don't like politics but want the right thing for their kids in schools and the right candidates for school boards. It's watching out for their elderly parents and influencing them to vote for the best choices for their needs as well. But if we don't stand up and do the work, we get more of the same. I refuse to have more of the same. I'll keep fighting the RINOs-with help or not.

I’ve gone to the same gym for almost 4 years now. Good friends with nearly everyone there. One day a guy who used to make small talk with me, just stopped. Didn’t think much of it, but it went on for weeks. Found out later he’s a liberal and someone showed him my X account and he just won’t talk to me now. This has happened many many many times since becoming publicly conservative. I’ve lost many friends and even many more acquaintances. They won’t even discuss us. Won’t even look at me. It’s bad for me… but it’s 10,000x worse for my wife. Liberal women are genuinely EVIL to conservative women. It’s on another level. Pure evil. No one talks about this enough but the public shaming of people who are openly conservative is extremely intense and unless you have a lot of mental fortitude and surround yourself with better people quickly… I can understand why many find it is not worth saying anything at all. But that doesn’t make it harder for those of us who speak up… because we are the few.
