Senator Lashrecse Aird says I’m spreading “misinformation” and “unequivocal lies.” That’s an interesting accusation from a legislator who voted for an unconstitutional assault weapons ban and supported an unconstitutional redistricting amendment. Let’s talk about the actual text of the budget—not political press releases. The language highlighted in blue repeals Virginia’s marijuana criminal statutes. There is no delayed effective date attached to that repeal. The very next paragraph provides that the fifth reenactment—the new regulatory framework and commercial marijuana marketplace—does not become effective until July 1, 2027. Under ordinary principles of statutory construction, courts give effect to the language the General Assembly enacted. When one provision is repealed immediately and the replacement is delayed, there is a gap unless the legislature expressly says otherwise. That’s the legal issue. It isn’t resolved by issuing a press release or accusing critics of misinformation. If Senator Aird believes the repeal was not effective on July 1, she should identify the language in the budget that delays the repeal itself. I’ve looked for it. It’s not there. Lawyers don’t decide cases based on what legislators later say they intended. Courts decide cases based on the words the General Assembly actually enacted.

The list would be too long to try to thank everyone who has stood with us through this nightmare. From friends dropping off dinner, caring for our children, sitting with us, and praying for our family as I relived the worst moments of my life—to people reaching out to share their own stories and friends offering full throated belief that never wavered. If there is one thing I hope other survivors take from my experience, it is this: PLEASE reach out to @CheyenneHuntCA and Reckoning Action instead of trying to navigate this alone. When everyone else had moved on, she and her team stood with us and helped us finally tell our stories. While this has been painful and humiliating, I am so relieved that my story has finally been told. I am proud of the life I have built, and I thank God every day for blessing me with such an incredible husband, family, and friends. I've learned that secrets are like a cancer that only fester in darkness. You can try your best, but you cannot truly live in freedom until you bring them into the light. And today, by the grace of God, I am free.
