Today I was laid off from the IT field after 30 years at the same job. I started part time in 96' when I was a junior in high school, just doing basic troubleshooting and fixing computers. I worked through college and then full time after. What did I get for my 30 years of service? Almost nothing. I got 3 weeks vacation, which was supposed to be accrued only (which would have been 1.5 weeks) but after I complained it was changed to the full 3 weeks and paid medical for a few months. No severance. No cushion. Nothing. 😒 Why was I laid off? - Dwindling client base - The number was cut in half in recent years; several closed and some found other IT vendors. Splitting time between a smaller number of clients obviously is not sustainable. - AI automation - gone are the days of needing to run around to every computer to apply updates, basic things can be fixed remotely, and AI makes reporting that took days take hours. Instead of asking IT for help, clients just ask AI which walks them through fixing many things - Instead of needing an expert, AI can do it all for you. - Less need for IT support - back in the day, late 90's - 2010's, people had no idea how to do basic computing, hooking up computer, printers, ect. The modern workforce is able to do most of this stuff themselves and are much more computer savvy. What will I do now? Not sure. Since I have done this for 30 years, I'm unsure of the direction I want to go. I could get into another IT job probably, but we will see where the wind takes me. Without X, I would be sunk - the cost of living is so high in MA, all of my regular income went to cover the essentials. Most of the money that I have earned on X has been saved so I have that to fall back on but I never intended for it to be my full time thing. The direction X is going I sadly dont know if its viable to do full time and that's pretty sad for an account this size. At one point it seemed like a possibility, but the way things are looking now, it seems like they dont want to pay anyone for anything any more. In the meantime, I will be trying to improve my X game and possibly doing more spaces, articles, research, ect - but at the end of the day, even if I do those things, I have no idea if it will be worth it or viable the way things are looking. 'Make your living on X' Elon once said - it seems like a pipe dream at this point but here's to hoping for the future. 🥂

Kid Hero Catches Pedo Teacher Red-Handed! A brave middle school boy in South Dakota trapped his 6th-grade teacher after the creep sent creepy messages to a 12-year-old girl. The teacher, 28-year-old Zachary Kaderabek from Huron Middle School, added the girl on Snapchat and made her uncomfortable. When she told her boy friend, he stepped up. He created a fake Snapchat account pretending to be a 14-year-old girl named “Kate” using random Pinterest photos. The teacher took the bait. He said things like “Oh, so only four more years” with a winky face, sent sexual messages, and even sent dick pics. The boy saved everything and showed it to his parents. They called the police. Kaderabek was arrested and now faces serious charges: sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor. He’s on unpaid leave. Absolute W for the kid.

🇺🇸 Chicago police had Derek Jordan, 42, boxed in an alley in Humboldt Park. He was wanted for a shooting on the expressway. He rammed a bus, a squad car, and hit a pedestrian trying to escape. She had recently moved there and worked as a waitress alongside her boyfriend, also Polish. One evening she left the house and vanished. Her phone was switched off. She never made it back to the hotel. After six days of searching, the nightmare discovery, her lifeless body was found in a swampy area completely naked and wrapped in a sheet. Investigators confirmed she had been kidnapped, raped, tortured, and strangled to death. Her killer then wrapped her body in a sheet and dumped it in the marsh. Police had no doubts. They arrested Bangladeshi migrant Salahuddin S., caught on surveillance cameras and identified by neighbours. He was covered in scratches on his face and hands, clear signs that Anastazja fought desperately until the end. Realising he was being hunted, the suspect was preparing to flee. Guess where? To Italy, of course… He has been charged with rape, murder, and concealment of a corpse. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and is currently serving his sentence in Greece.

Some guy tipped me ten dollars in quarters, and I’m still trying to figure out what kind of person thinks that’s acceptable. I just finished a DoorDash order, and he casually mentions he forgot to tip in the app—which, fine, not ideal, whatever. Then he dramatically pulls out a literal roll of quarters like he’s handing me the crown jewels. He looks me dead in the eye and says, “Sorry man, I didn’t tip on the app, this is all I’ve got.” Yeah, thanks. I love holding a handful of coins like it’s 1998. I don’t use change. I’m not a parking meter. I’m not walking around with rolls of quarters or dumping them into a Coinstar just to get the money I already earned. I took it because arguing over coins isn’t how I planned to spend my day, but that doesn’t make it okay. Tipping in quarters is peak absurdity. Tip in the app, tip in bills, tip digitally—literally anything that doesn’t involve me schlepping around loose metal. Acting like this is normal? Pure comedy. And yes, no one should ever think a pocketful of coins counts as a tip.
