This is an astonishing statistic. Me calling the physical userbase on PS5 "vanishingly small" may actually be underselling it. (Mat clarified this is for all games from all pubs on PS.) I'm wishing my physical brethren the very best in their fight, but it ain't looking good.

@Inglebard4 Freedom of store choice, better digital customer policies, and the ability to pirate a game if they take my purchase away. Also I can make my own physical discs or external drive backups of the games and installers. PlayStation’s “library” isn’t worth the chains.

Something else I don't get. If you're mad at Sony for dropping physical why the f*ck are you switching to PC? I'm multiplat myself and fine with my PC games, but why is it OK to get digital only games on PC but not PS? And yes, I'd prefer Sony keep physical discs an option.

We don't live in a USSR-style command economy. SONY is a private corporation that can choose any legal way to distribute their products. They don't have to justify their choices to anyone. If there's enough demand for physical media - someone else will supply it. That's how free market works. Or did you want the government to order them how many discs they have to print? That's what the USSR did back in the day.

Looked at my mentions from the last couple of days, it's pretty obvious PlayStation have recruited a bot farm. They're out here rationalising Sony's digital future parotting the same arguments and misinformation about physical media.

I want to reiterate to the @FTC that Sony has major influence and presence in the multi-billion $ physical game industry. - Posting misleading sales data to front a narrative that physical media is not preferred or valid. - Eliminating ownership (DRM) and 2nd hand markets.

When people say they're going to stop buying PS5 physical games to boycott Sony... doesn't that just give Sony even more justification to end physical disc production? I've been seeing this sentiment a lot lately and I can't help but side-eye it.

I understand Americas sport culture and the way they like to do things. However I never want to see them host another World Cup. They managed to strip meaning and the love out of the game, bent the rules for capitalism and gave use the most corrupt World Cup ever witnessed.

Looks like the enshittification actually goes the other way. People pointed out that PSN has always been this scummy, and Sony is now bringing the philosophy to Crunchyroll instead of the other way round. Is it our time now to ask, "Where was the outcry when this started?"

They are stopping buying videogames from you so you have to hide behind smaller indie game devs who are more likely gonna sell their games more on Steam and GOG. Watch what happens when you piss off the game devs and studios by stealing all the attention they paid for in your time slots. Once you lose the devs and studios, you will not see another dime in profit and the Sony Playstation brand will die.

@pushsquare have you read the comments you quote in your article? I do see ONE unnecessary comment that says "I hate this game", but most of the comments are simply voicing dissatisfaction with Sony...and one even apologizes. This isn't an attack. This is freedom of speech. This is peaceful protesting of a policy people are allowed to say they don't like. This is how a group effects change. And yeah it DOES suck for any indie dev trying to launch a license (not actually a game to own) on PlayStation Store right now...but blame Sony for that. Sometimes in war there is collateral damage...but gamers didn't start this war on ownership, Sony did... P.S. If you're someone participating in this form of protest against Sony killing physical - don't swear at devs or writers on websites. Just respectfully make it known that you are unhappy.
