@Stat_enjoyer It still should have been growing, not decreasing. Lack of high volume manufacturing is one of the main reasons of current jobs market situation and middle class crisis. High paying positions for STEM professionals that were there just no longer exist.

@DrewPavlou To be fair there are many Māori groups in NZ who are bitterly opposed to the mass immigration of ‘brown’ people, particularly Indians. They have been highly visible in protesting this as they see their unique culture and place in NZ threatened in the future.

She accused the government of trying to prevent that by encouraging immigration from traditional countries such as Australia, Britain and Canada.” Imagine how annoying it would be to have to deal with this psychotic shit in New Zealand politics. The Chinese Ambassador’s comments have just proven the point I made in the House yesterday. No amount of pearl clutching and faux outrage is going to change it. We live in a democracy that includes free speech and rights - those two values that other certain countries not only limit, but do so with force. If you want to compare what our free democratic country has - in particular our parliament - then go back and see what it’s like in those communist and dictatorship countries and look for yourself. I will not resile from that point and New Zealanders should not resile from it. If that offends the pearl clutchers and the communist shills labelling it as ‘dangerous’ - welcome to New Zealand.

Just to put a possible counter narrative. When there was a NZF/Labour Coalition from 05 to 08 the minimum English level was raised and this was followed with a rise in British migration and a fall from Asia. Winston can change migration if he wants. The problem is does he?

@lemurdaze Plus the larger population the more than can pay themselves higher figures because the pool of relative rich also rises. It doesn't look as bad to pay yourself 500k then it did 30 years ago.

@lemurdaze The higher the population the more government and corporate entities there are, the more they can sell Maori cultural services to them. Not to mention Iwi involvement in literally all physical construction through the RMA is another way of clipping the ticket.
