We teach our kids to score points and keep scoring points. The magic number used to be 7 to have a good chance at winning, but with the new scoring system you really need to be getting 8-10 to win the majority of your matches. Unless you're AJ Ferrari bro. And you probably aren't. This data is based on every D1 match wrestled so far this season.

There’s a lot of truth to this. After 4 (or 5+) years of competing in Folkstyle gimmick - there’s a high percentage of wrestlers who DON’T even want to embark on a senior level career. It’s a real problem. Take Meyer Goat for example. Everyone is shocked he is opting in and taking a redshirt, because as fans we just assume everyone wants to wrestle Folkstyle for half a decade. That’s not these guys reality. People like Carter Starocci are one of a kind.

My advice is to test youth/HS sports as the final product, not a minor league for college/pro. Work hard to succeed within that level for its own sake. Push it as a pipeline and you suck the fun out of it, and lose most of the lessons sports are supposed to teach. If a kid’s talented and driven enough to go further, it’ll happen on its own. Forcing it isn’t worth the cost.

This is one of the worst takes regarding youth sports. Youth sports is a simulation for real world hardships in a controlled environment. They are a super power. The best thing about kids is they haven’t learned what they can’t do yet. The world hasn’t stolen their day dreams.

There’s really no need for a third voice, but if you are going to have a third voice then I’d really like it to be a high level technician that speaks less often but goes into technical detail. Imagine replacing Juliana with Sarah Hildebrandt, Helen Mouroulas, or Adeline Gray. I’ve heard them all on the mic and they are all good.

I don’t think it does. The way I teach it, surrendering the outcome means you accept the result for what it is, it doesn’t mean you don’t care about the result. Winning a big match means the training is working, and that’s worth celebrating. Losing a big match means you still have work to do, and that’s ok too.

Damn… two thoughts… Paddy Pimblett is a killer. 52 seconds. His grappling is seriously underrated. I was looking forward to this fight almost as much as the main event. Can’t help but feel cheated as a fan. 😂 This was the wrestling equivalent of a quick single straight into a leg lace.

@DennisB1972 @JustinJBasch Yeah that was a high pace for heavyweights so I wouldn’t be too concerned for that. My biggest concern is his defensive gaps but if he’s working with Jackson and Jon Jones, they’ll definitely clean that up.
