On 19 October 2023, the then Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. @MathiasMpuuga, presented a statement on unabated human rights abuses and the shrinking civic space in the country. Mpuuga cited widespread abductions and torture of opposition supporters. He challenged the government to account for citizens, including 18 individuals missing for years, who were picked up by security forces. 📍LOGIC BEHIND ELECTORAL REFORMS REVEALED Addressing a section of his constituents in Nyendo-Mukungwe, @democraticfr president @MathiasMpuuga who pushed the constitutional and electoral reforms for more than three years amid twin stiff resistence from the tired regime, and a section of opposition actors, explained the logic behind them. Just like that, president @HEBobiwine was ill-advised to dismiss a crucial reform which would change the way results of presidential elections are announced. If the @MathiasMpuuga reforms were not blocked out of either ignorance, short-sightedness, or spite, the presidential results for 2026 elections, would be announced at the district level as it is the case with the MPs not driving them at break-neck speed throughout the election night up to Byabakama's national tally center. Anyway, I still insist, we needed the reforms, but leaders failed to smell the coffee just like veteran journalist @anderlukson.
