What Wike is doing in Abuja is disheartening to say the least. How do you allocate half of a park people have used for recreational activities for decades for residential development? Cutting down trees like the city isn’t in need of more and now cutting livelihoods. Just brutal!

@officialsaskay @Mr_Justgentle The choices are not clear-cut for countries like Nigeria because of our strategic interests with the US on one hand, and China & the EU on the other. It becomes a delicate balancing act to avoid antagonising any of these partners by appearing to support either Ukraine or Russia.

@Mr_Justgentle You’re right, this is what happens when states have no leverage. Flexibility and non-alignment cannot be considered a strategy when we have little or no military and/or economic capacity. Thank you for the compliment.

Very soon we won’t have a single park left in Abuja. We are already dealing with the consequences of losing so many trees and green areas. They’re about to turn Abuja into lagos where you can’t even breathe properly 😭

Ultimately, every tree pulled down will be replanted and every building raised in their stead will be pulled down.

Those using political influence to spatially appropriate green spaces in #Abuja must remember: administrations come and go, but the city remains.

Chai! Nigerian Presidents really need to stop appointing journalists as their spokespersons. Only very few Nigerian journalists have the intellectual depth and emotional intelligence required for that role.

Many Africans can’t relate to Climate Change. They view it as something happening elsewhere. But they can relate to famine, they can relate to flooding and they can relate to desertification. We need to make discussions about Climate Change more relatable to Africans.
