R5.6 Million Meth Shipment from Johannesburg to Cape Town Intercepted on N1 Near Worcester as Breede River K9 Unit Arrests 59-Year-Old Suspect
The distribution of drugs to Western Cape communities was disrupted after police arrested a suspect for possession of drugs on Monday, 23 March 2026. The arrest followed an operation targeting a shipment believed to be transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
Members of the Breede River K9 Unit acted on information about drugs being moved along the N1 Highway. Officers conducted observation and identified a truck matching the description. The vehicle was intercepted and stopped near Worcester as part of the ongoing operation.
A narcotic detection dog named Bella was deployed to inspect the truck. The dog reacted to two boxes inside the driver’s compartment. Upon searching, officers discovered 20 plastic containers filled with methamphetamine. A 59-year-old male was arrested, and the drugs were estimated to have a street value of R5.6 million.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court once formal charges have been laid. The arrest marks a significant intervention in the movement of drugs intended for distribution within Western Cape communities.

The Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association has announced a shutdown of all taxi operations on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
The association says no taxis will operate on the day and has urged commuters to make alternative transport arrangements.
The shutdown is in response to what the association describes as unfair treatment by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety.
