@arielhelwani @tgerbasi I just ran into Tom on the Sunday before he died at Vincent’s clam bar on Long Island. He was one of the best guys I ever knew in any capacity. He was a close friend and confident to me for way over a decade. I’ll think of him every day.

So long, @tgerbasi. Please believe me - and everyone else - when they tell you Tom was the best us. Amazing to read just how many young journos he took under his wing. How did he have the time and patience to be so kind to so many? What a special soul gone way too soon.

I saw Tom on Sunday at Vincent’s Clam Bar on Long Island, having dinner with his wife. He refused my handsake and instead went in for a hug. He was in great spirits and excited about his adult soccer game later that night. Tom had a huge heart and to have an audience with him was a special blessing. I’ll never be the same.

If anyone wants to share some words publicly (quote tweet) or privately (dm) on who Tom was to them, send them to me and I will include it in a tribute piece to him. Funny stories are welcomed as well.

I’m devasted by the death of my close friend and longtime confidant, @tgerbasi. In addition to being one of the all-time most prolific combat sports jorunalists, Thomas Gerbasi was one of the most beautiful people I ever knew. I literally just saw him on Sunday at Vincent’s Clam Bar on Long Island. I won’t ever be the same.
