@kojimaicmatters The movie sucks b/c it tries to have it both ways: it wants to be a CRUCIBLE-like critique of religious fundamentalism while also taking the side of paganism and magic. Eggers is super overrated, his scripts are reliably terrible.

One of the reasons that It Follows is the best recent horror movie is that it subverts a conservative horror trope wherein having teen sex basically guarantees that the monster is gonna kill you. It doesn't do this in the boring way, e.g. recasting (women's) sexuality as good...

Funny thing for me rn is that I'm naturally pulled towards a, call it objectivist (not in the Randian sense) view of art, ie, to claim we can & should evaluate pieces by the internal qualities they contain, without reference to artist or to social embedding
