Markets open today for the first time in 2026. I don’t talk about my investing much, because it is 100% boring. Mostly farm land, and $tsla shares, long term….. Farming has taught me to never hold my breath, so I won’t, but I am low key excited about the possibility of a spacex IPO this year. I first heard about SpaceX when a local radio show did a segment on Elon’s interview with the BBC, in March of 2012. One way tickets to Mars. That’s the first time I had heard of the guy, and also what got me started looking in to his crazy electric car idea…. There’s a lot of water under the bridge since then, and I have a feeling there’s a lot more water where that came from.

@SirWiseSam Oh wow, that’s so cool! Did he need any type of license to fly them? Have you ever flown them?

@MattWShow He would fly them! They were remote control. He also had a collection of maybe 100 small plane gas motors for them. I can still smell the oil too. He flew Ultralites for a while before us kids got older. I think it was the freedom in the air.

It’s time to replace the u-joints on the driveshaft between the engine and transmission on this tractor. They are easy enough to change, just takes forever to get at them, lol….. Also changing some seals and gaskets along the way. Springtime’s a coming!

@SirWiseSam That shop is so awesome. I can smell the hot metal filings and cutting oil. What was his fascination/connection with the planes? Possibly just the mechanical marvel of them…..?

He wouldn’t have. But I would have. Here is his shop. I took a picture the other day. We went close when I was a kid. But I would sit quietly and watch him machine for countless hours. Or loved when he was melting down metal to pour in a mold he just made. It’s a bit memorialish

@lewi72373 No. Have to start from the top. Remove the hood, and all the air cleaner and mounting and ducting etc…..

I hear you, you’re preaching to the choir now! The series of tractor before these, had the engine bolted straight onto the transmission, so they didn’t even have this drive shaft. Some where along the line an engineer thought it would be good to move the engine further ahead, for better weight distribution. He wasn’t wrong, but it added more parts and problems, lol….

@MattWShow My wife wanted a wholistic destitute and this one was the closest we could find. Not a bad trip when the car does all the boring driving up and down I5 which is the mostly dead flat dead straight freeway.

Today's road trip was down to Davis CA. Left the house at 100% battery. 295 miles range showing at 100% so in 3 years and 50k miles I have 10% battery degradation. Arrived in Davis after 170 miles with 29% battery. While my wife went to her dentist appointment I went to charge the car. The Suercharger at Cowell Blvd. is a location where price for power is based on how full the station is when you plug in. When I plugged in it was at the lowest price of 34 cents per kWh. Since I was in no rush I set the charge limit to 80% and walked to the grocery store there for something to drink. After my wife got done with her appointment we had lunch and then started the trip home. I was a bit tired so made an unscheduled stop on Corning to get a drink at a travel stop. Then back in the car for the scheduled stop in Cottonwood. There I just needed a fast 5 minute top off before going to the store at this location and then home. Total trip was 345 miles. Total charging time during two charging sessions was 30 minutes. If I had skipped the first charging stop in Davis I could have run down the SOC for faster charging but I was in no rush and wanted to take advantage of the cheaper power. We could have charged where we had lunch. That would have saved some time since we could have eaten while charging but the power would have been 12 cents more per kWh and really I had nothing better to do while waiting for my wife so cheaper power won.

I appreciate you saying that! I would have loved seeing the things he’s working on everyday as well. I doubt he have posted much though, because he wouldn’t have thought of it as "significant" enough….. I don’t need many people, but I think it would have been fun meeting him in his natural habitat!

Cloudy, chilly morning here. Sun is trying to break through though. The forecast is calling for above freezing daytime temperatures for the rest of the week. Looking forward to that. First truck of the day just pulled in, right on time. Time to get to work!!
