Let's catch up with the facts: 1) Ceasefire Terms - A two-week ceasefire was agreed to allow negotiations starting Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan - Neither side has accepted the other’s demands, they’re simply the starting point for talks - US demands: end Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs, cut all proxy funding, open the Strait of Hormuz, stop aggression against Israel - Iran demands: retain control of Hormuz (with tolls), permanent ceasefire, war reparations from the US and Israel, full sanctions relief, Israel must stop attacking Hezbollah 2) Iran’s Weakened Position - Iran’s air force, navy, and air defenses have been almost completely destroyed - Khamenei and dozens of senior military/intelligence leaders have been killed, including the IRGC commander, chief of staff, minister of defense, minister of intelligence, heads of Basij, and two heads of the nuclear weapons organization - Petrochemical industries, military factories, Basij headquarters, and police command centers across the country have been demolished - Iran’s only real leverage, closing the Strait of Hormuz, was squandered by gradually reopening it to Chinese, Indian, European, and other ships before the ceasefire - US losses by comparison: five aircraft and 13 soldiers; Israel: 25 civilian deaths 3) Diplomatic & Strategic Dynamics - China reportedly pressured Iran into accepting the ceasefire and reopening Hormuz - The US arrives at negotiations leading a coalition including Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia; Iran arrives alone - Gulf Cooperation Council states have turned against Iran; the Dubai sanctions-bypass route is closed - The ceasefire may also be a strategic pause for the US to reposition troops for a potential ground operation on Kharg Island (source of 90% of Iran’s oil exports) 4) Internal Iranian Fracture - A power struggle exists between the pragmatic political wing under President Pezeshkian (open to negotiation/surrender) and the IRGC hardliners (prepared to fight to the end), this was expected - Pezeshkian warned Iran’s economy could collapse within three to four weeks, the negotiation window overlaps exactly with that timeline - The Iranian people remain opposed to the regime, with anger deepened by a January massacre and the government’s abandonment of civilians during the war 5) Bottom Line - If Iran accepts US terms, it amounts to surrender; if it doesn’t, war will likely resume - Iran is framing survival itself as victory - The ceasefire does not mean the war is over​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Do you see it now?
