Tactical decision to take off a 40m striker at 1-1 versus bottom for a player who is very obviously not remotely ready for professional football. Remarkable that it’s just allowed to go on.

Amorim on subbing Zirkzee off: “We were running around trying to get hold of the ball. We were struggling with their midfielders, and sometimes you can attack better with less strikers. We played with three strikers and sometimes that's not the best thing to attack well.”
English

@GurneyMack A manager who can only play one formation isn’t good enough for this job. Really simple.
English

@MatthewGridiron I get your frustration because Amorim also knows this but won’t change the formation because of it
English

@GurneyMack The vast majority of the game is dictated by shit players who are too far forward, like Dalot in this match. They’re not being put in a position to win.
English

@MatthewGridiron I genuinely think they should have taken the money for Bruno in the summer and fixed more, because he was never going to play in his best position with the signings they made. He’s maddening because he often plays utter gash but still gets a goal or assist late when needed
English

@GurneyMack He’d be fine in a midfield three, which he’s unwilling to play despite vast evidence that the season is only going one way. They play five at the back and can’t keep a clean sheet as well. It’s a farce.
English

@GurneyMack Even if you blame the players, all of the decisions are senseless. The only time I’ve seen the midfield look viable was Mainoo and Ugarte at Anfield last year. Haven’t played together all season. Meanwhile, Bruno, their best player, is out of position every week.
English

@GurneyMack He’s a joke. Completely unwilling to change. Just leaves it as it is all the way through games where they’re getting battered.
English

@GurneyMack The biggest issue is the manager. Completely out of his depth. No idea how it’s allowed to go on. They’d obviously be better in a 4-3-3 with extra bodies in.
English

@MatthewGridiron The biggest issue was the midfield was a clear issue in the summer but not addressed. It has to be in January.
English

No Carabao Cup either. Can't stop this train now.

@OllieConnolly Obvious they need Watkins or Gordon up top to stretch them.

If Qatar was this England's Euro 2004 (arguably the best team in it, unlucky to go out in the quarters) then Euro 2024 has huge 2006 World Cup vibes about it, right up to a manager who lifted everything about the national team going a tournament too far.
