Apart from the jokes about the fact that (allegedly) getting decimated for three days due to a couple of glasses of wine one night is the lamest thing I've heard in a long time and something that even an 86 year old granny wouldn't admit to, there is something interesting here about the religious impulse of people. So much of this kind of stuff - health / efficiency maxed stuff - is just secularized religious impulse. It's obvious in the way they talk about the substances or ingredients whatever it may be. There is a decidedly strident kind of "believing" tone. They exaggerate a lot. For example, there is no way this guy was actually negatively impacted for three days in any meaningful way. Maybe he believes somewhere he feels it but by no reasonable way of understanding our body did it really happen to him. They exaggerate the positives and the negatives in a kind of religious fervor to justify it. They are basically performing a pretty standard religious impulse - separating things into holy vs unholy / pure vs impure / sacred vs profane. They don't use that language of course. The whole point here is that it is secularized religious impulse, but that's what it is. It's interesting once you see it as that. People are searching and want to feel that religious fervor even if they don't see themselves as religious. They ache for the feeling of righteousness, whether it be in casting out the demonic seed oils, forgoing the evil spirit water known as wine, or seeking salvation in the perfected sleep score.

Steven Bartlett says a few glasses of wine ruined the next 3 days of his life “It's one of those areas where you don't understand the hidden cost until you really give it up for a while. I stopped drinking at 30 years old. I'm now 33. When I was 31, I thought, I'll have a drink again because now I could really A/B test it. I had a year of not drinking, decided to have a drink again” “It ruined three days of my life. I had a couple of glasses of wine, didn't get drunk. It ruined three days of my life because of the domino effect it caused” “I got worse sleep that night, and then because I got worse sleep that night, I ate more poorly the next day because my dopamine system or whatever, the cortisol system was all messed up. I podcasted worse. I didn't go to the gym that day or the day after because I felt really bad. I then slept worse, and I could track all of this on my Whoop”

I have to get one of these when budget allows. So excellent. I do not have near the creative ability of the photographer here but it would still be an adventure learning analog and film.

Remember in high school when you would break up and you would get all distraught and emotional? You would feel like everything was terrible and it was such a tragedy. It didn't matter at all of course, but you felt that it was really a big deal because you didn't know better at the time and you were just a stupid kid. That impetus or situation doesn't really change so much, it just evolves. Sure, as we get older the stuff we go through or encounter is much much realer than a high school romance. Losing loved ones, having to switch careers, being response for more than just yourself etc... is more real than the 16 year old break up. But some degree of our emotion, impetus, or process remains the same. We have choices. We always have choices. They are external choices and internal choices. We can choose to think small or big. We can choose to blow something out of proportion or not. We can choose to get unnecessarily depressed or look on the bright side of things. We can choose to get down or choose to snap out of things and get going. It's a lifelong struggle, I think.

It is one of the best experiences to be on a great team at work. Like running a perfect 2 minute drill offense. First down or gain on every play. You know a touchdown is coming.

It’s 67 degrees, it’s May 17th, and people are still skiing in Northern Michigan. I was just up and down and all over shooting photo and video, talking with some of these guys. Wild world up here.

Cubs / Sox cross-town series tiebreaker is the same time as my son's little league game today. Taking a North / South sider census based on dad hats.

Yoto player is a fantastic invention. We have them for our kids. We were thinking about giving them tape players to listen to stuff but then we discovered the Yoto and it achieves the same thing in a more modern way. They have great stories, classics, and geography, science and stuff like that too. Our kids honestly learn a lot of great stuff from them. A great alternative to screens on long trips etc.. Listening to something is different than watching. I think it's because when listening we still have to use our imagination in some way. Like listening to a book, or a radio broadcast (in the old days) etc... I think there is a little more going on in our brain. Yoto is good.

Another iPad alternative is the Yoto player - audiobooks, podcasts, and music for kids. They also have an amazing BBC-style daily news report! Strong recommend.
