“I always had a hard time in past places where you say, ‘Who’s the Player of the Game?’” Moore said. “It’s like one player, and you’re like, ‘OK I’ve got seven names I can give you right now.’” Kellen Moore gives out game balls like Oprah gives out cars. Here’s why: nola.com/sports/saints/…

I’ve just learned of the passing of Howard Fendrich, from Associated Press. Tennis loses one of its great journalists. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

My friend @HowardFendrich passed away today. Allow me to share some thoughts. We met as teenagers, immediately bonding over our mutually insane love of sports, all the local teams and Cal Ripken Jr. We remained close ever since. I’ll admit I tend to have a high opinion of my sports takes and can be snobbish about whom I engage with in debates. No matter the topic, Howard was always my favorite foil, in large part because he never hesitated telling me when my opinions were very, very wrong. An award-winning writer with a quick wit, Howard covered D.C. sports and led the AP’s tennis coverage for two decades. He was a legend on deadline and respected by everyone. Roger Federer said as much in Howard’s obituary. I visited Howard when he worked in the AP’s Rome bureau. One trip I never made was to Wimbledon. I kept promising myself I’d get there one day so Howard could show me those hallowed grounds. As you can guess, I never went. I am furious at myself right now. Mostly, I’m devastated because those sports debates over lunches at Parkway Deli or in press boxes around town are no more. No more hearing him proudly brag about his two sons following him into sports journalism. No more chances to thank him for believing I could make it in this business when I wasn’t sure myself. I’m not covering the Commanders — or any team — without Howard’s push and guidance. The world doesn’t stop spinning, and sports debates will continue. They just won’t sound the same to me without Howard there calling balls and strikes. apnews.com/article/howard…

What Whyno said. I learned so much from watching and reading Howard, especially the way he asked questions in press conferences. He was the type of journalist who could ask the question that person didn’t want to answer, but still get a great quote/reaction because of the way he asked it. @Lescarpenter captured it here perfectly in his Mark Sanchez profile in 2018:

The audio issues seem to have been fixed, but is anyone else's NBC feed for Spurs-Thunder annoyingly fuzzy? I can't tell if it's a YouTube TV problem or an NBC one.

Mickey Loomis remains non-committal publicly on Alvin Kamara. “We’re just trying to see how he’s gonna fit on our roster. Obviously there’s a resource management element. We’ll get to that over the next week or two.”

Why did the NFL schedule Saints-Falcons for 10 days after the 20th anniversary of the team's first game back in the Dome instead of in Week 3, when it would have been only three days after? A league executive explained why Friday: nola.com/sports/saints/…

The thing that stands out the most to me about the schedule: Four of their final five games come against NFC South opponents, and three of those are on the road. That stretch may decide whether the Saints end their playoff drought.
