Raising 3 kids and farming at Munglinup, Western Australia. Cattle, Cropping and a bit of Hay Contracting. Politically opinionated but not rude about it.

Tinfoil hat theory. Govt is already rationing fuel by restricting flow from terminals and just not saying it. How good would it be if they came out and said, your not going to get the fuel you need to plant, let alone maintain then harvest a crop. Save your inputs accordingly.

City people. Can you do us bush people a favour?? Can you all use public transport for just 1 day per week? That fuel saved might be enough to keep the bush going with fuel for a bit until regular deliveries can get going again from terminal

@hasselljpb Same here “we know what people buy every year at what time of year, just don’t ask for more than that - we’re keeping it fair”

It pays to have a great relationship with your fuel company…. I ordered fuel a few days ago and wasn’t expecting it for a while but they dropped off some this morning just to keep us going. More to come. Legends!

#Agtwitter. How are you utilising artificial intelligence in your ag business today? Plenty of theoretical and potential uses but I’m interested in what people’s first steps have been and what they have actually gotten value from. TIA & RT Appreciated.

@melrose6405 I studied at Curtin. Can’t speak to Marcus sorry no experience with the place. Heading home to run farm - Curtin Heading down the R&D agronomy line - UWA End of the day uni is an expensive way to network and develop you ability to question the norm and think laterally.

Which uni course provides the best skill set for coming home to the farm for a family sibling that wants to go down the tertiary line? UWA Ag Science or Curtin Agribusiness or Marcus Oldham Geelong or something else?

T’was the night before Christmas, and we’re about to find out if a month worth of threats about being on Santa’s naughty list were just a bluff…..

30 degrees at 5am. Lost for words. Had a deal with Mother Nature, I take the water logging on the chin through winter but the ruthless bitch was supposed to save this shit for the inland neighbours. 🥵

Chance of rain on the way and the boss wants to golf on Saturday…. Called in a neighbour. Just happens the neighbour also wanted a golf partner. Feel like there was some scheming involved.

Impromptu trial. Had a late germination of sub clover and seredella in barley. Decided to leave it because cows…. Swathing barely, yield estimate mid 3t which considering we had a 170mm July on this country is a bloody good effort. Regenerative? Smart? Or just plain lazy?

@CasFarmerCD @JamieNicolaou You’re 100% right on the process. Advice I’ve been given is regardless of material, condition it hard, spread it wide, get it dry and get it in a bale yesterday. Like I say, I’m a novice, cow preference tells me that seredella clover rye shits all over straight cereal.

@Matthewbell205 @JamieNicolaou I thought barley was best, then rye, then oats etc. Higher sugar ferments better. Key is to get it dry enough quickly, to get the anaerobic process happening before too much aerobic decomposition happens.

@JamieNicolaou To be honest I’m a bit of a silage novice. I believe ryegrass>oats>other cereals. Timing is probably more critical than species?

@Matthewbell205 How does it go in silage, as in feed test wise? I’ve got some here which will need to go into silage.

Repurposing old cattle troughs. Mum wants flowers, Dad wants veggies, Sprout 1 wants sunflowers, 2 and 3 just want to dig. In reality the chooks with just scratch in it and nothing will grow.
