"St. Patrick was a Presbyterian and a Protestant. Neither popery nor prelacy are the religion of the Ancient Irish. Ireland is consecrated by the genius of a true, primitive, apostolical presbyterianism." - Thomas Smyth (1808-1873)

Remember, it is by grace you have been saved! It is the doers of the law and not the hearers who will be justified! For we are justified by faith apart from the works of the law and we are justified by works and not by faith alone! God will render to each one according to their works, for by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned! If you do not forgive your brother from your heart then neither will your Heavenly Father forgive you! If you confess your sins God will be faithful and just to forgive you. There is sin which is deadly and there is sin which is not deadly. Faith, hope, and love will abide, but the greatest of these is love. If you have not love you have nothing and love covers a multitude of sins. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified. The dead are judged by what is written in the books in heaven, by what they have done. Well, peace be with you!

@Mattman34 I’m not sure what kind of lifestyle you could be leading that 50 million wouldn’t be enough. My pension will likely be about 120k/year. If I live 40 years past retirement (age 87) even combined with my savings and investments I won’t reach anywhere near that. I’ll be fine.

I like to ask “would you do X for Y amount of money” or what’s the minimum amount of money you would X for. An honest to God conversation in the workplace that transpired last week involved a woman (23-24) saying that $50 million is not enough to retire on; and me and this other guy immediately just looked at each other, in shock. She was being serious and doubled down after questioning. Myyyyyyyyy goodness.

I will be giving up X for Lent (among other things). My last two Lents have been subpar, and I want to really dive in this year. Hold down the fort while I'm gone, okay? God bless! I hope you have a great Lent. See you soon (God willing)! (In effect at midnight.)

I am hoping and praying you all have a holy and blessed Lenten season and that you are drawn ever closer to the Lord. Please pray for me; I’ll pray for you. After today I’ll be logged off this platform until sometime during Holy Week. Peace be with you.

@Mattman34 @JDean1840615 Thus, the Council of Trent made official what the magisterium had held for many centuries, despite some sporadic, misguided decent that arose from time to time. St Jerome first merely submitted to the Pope but later came to believe that the Pope had been correct all along.

🤔 Hmm I wonder why Luther and the other reformers didn’t care for the deuterocanon. It’s a great mystery, one we may never solve. ಠ_ಠ

@JDean1840615 None of which, in and of themselves, made a magisterial ruling. And just off the top of my head I know that St. Jerome submitted to the authority of Pope Damasus who commissioned him to do the vulgate translation.

A recent statement by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez illuminates the Marxist ideology which continues to take hold of American politicians. Here are my thoughts.

This is how St. Pope Leo the Great described the purpose of Lent in AD 455. Good to keep in mind with Ash Wednesday on the horizon: “Remembering what the whole world obtained through the Cross, we realize that we are duly prepared for celebrating the Day of the Passover [Easter] by a fast of forty days [Lent], so that we can be worthy to enter on the divine mysteries. It is not only the highest bishops or the priests of the second order, nor the ministers of the Eucharist alone, but the whole body of the Church, the total number of the faithful, who ought to be cleansed from all contamination, so that the temple of God, whose foundation is the Founder himself, might be beautified in every stone and be full of light in all its parts.” Sermon 48 (March 13, 455)
