The justification for social security was always that it was an insurance program and not a tax. The illusion is that "you get your money back" so you stop paying in when you hit the max. I think we both agree social security is a failure. It is a Ponzi scheme from the start. People making less than 180k shouldn't have to contribute at all and be allowed to invest with real bankers in real programs that work. If we agree to kill the horribleblie of social security I bet the wealthy would continue to contribute to maintain those who depend on it now. But the lie has to end now.
