It’s fascinating how expensive and yet utterly rubbish British trains are. Should have driven…

Men’s curling team for Canada blatantly cheated yet still won gold at the Winter Olympics. Curler Marc Kennedy was caught on video double-touching the rock then cursed when called out for it. After stealing the gold, Kennedy’s teammate Brad Jacobs said the media reported on the cheating just for “clickbait.” Jacobs said he’s fine with the accusations because it got more people to watch and talk about the sport. Yes, we’re talking about how Canada cheated and then gloated about winning afterwards. Jacobs said, “I hope that the image of us standing on top of the podium, embracing one another, smiling ear to ear with our gold medals is burned into your brain forever.” Nah, that’s not the image burned into everyone’s brain. It’s the image of Marc Kennedy double-tapping the stone to cheat that’s remembered. (CBCNews on YT)

Newsflash @CurlingCanada nobody recognizes your gold medal. You are cheating lowlife liars. The entire world witnessed it. Tomorrow your hockey team will pay for your sins on an intergalactic level. #canadacurlingcheats

@aakashgupta But they don’t own the risk? So although yes I agree on complexity and ever changing environments, my understanding is that ultimately the employer absorbs all risks associated with the use of workforce so it acts more as an automation, management and database tool?

Anthropic employs world-class engineers who could build an HR system in weeks. They use Workday anyway. The reason tells you exactly where enterprise SaaS is headed. Building HR software requires knowing labor law across 50 states and 100+ countries. Payroll tax compliance changes quarterly. Healthcare benefit structures shift annually. One classification error creates seven-figure liability. No engineering team wants to own that surface area. The maintenance burden compounds forever while delivering zero competitive advantage. This is why enterprise SaaS moats actually strengthen with AI. The value was never “we built software you couldn’t.” The value was always “we absorb compliance risk and regulatory complexity you don’t want.” AI makes custom software cheaper to build. It doesn’t make compliance cheaper to own. Workday’s real product is liability absorption, and that product just got more valuable as build-vs-buy calculations everywhere else shift. The companies getting disrupted are the ones selling capability. The ones selling risk transfer are about to have their best decade.
Gergely Orosz@GergelyOrosz

The company that created Claude Code and Claude Cowork must have obviously built their own HR solution from scratch with these tools, right? No: they use Workday. Understand why this is, and you'll understand why enterprise SaaS could be doing better than ever, thanks to AI

@RupertLowe10 My annual festive event brought in ~30% of what it did last year and we have cancelled our Hogmanay event. It’s absolutely brutal out there at the moment - I run a licensed brewery with a taproom/bottle shop. Not sure I’ll make next Christmas at the moment.

Busiest time of the year for hospitality and the industry is SUFFERING. The last two budgets, on top of an already immensely heavy tax burden. Skyrocketing rates. Insurance costs exploding. Energy costs soaring. Hospitality runs on tight margins. It cannot absorb endless tax rises, stealth charges, and regulatory costs imposed by people who have earned a penny in the private sector. It will break. It is breaking. How can Reeves not understand it? Someone running a pub will look at these numbers at just not hire the additional staff, not invest in the new beer garden, not refurbish the pub, not pour any money into the local economy. It DRIES UP. What's the point? When it's all just taken in tax? Why bother? So there aren't jobs for local youngsters, there aren't new contracts for redecorating firms, there is nothing. I just cannot fathom how those in Government don't understand this. There is one answer. CUT TAX. Brutally cut tax. Everything else falls around that. One way, and that's to make the risk worth it. They want to grow the economy. We all do. But tax, tax, tax is not the way. It will never work. You need to give people INCENTIVES. And I don't mean back to pre-Labour levels - people forget how bad it has been for years. Slash it all back, in the most spectacular way. Make the gamble worth taking. If they do expand the business, hire more staff, invest their capital? It has to be WORTH IT. The risk is big, but the possible reward must also be big. ANYBODY who has run a small business understands this - it is so painfully obvious. Can you imagine how fantastically well the British economy would prosper in a low tax, low regulation environment? Instead we have this - a filthy tax swamp that is suffocating our rainmakers. Nothing will change until we get MPs, and civil servants, who have built businesses in the private sector. I sit on the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, listening to these people who take/implement the decisions. They are clueless about the real world. Honestly, clueless. Let's get them running a pub in the current climate. How would Reeves fare? She'd be in tears by the end of the day. And I mean that. They simply do not understand the pressure. The current approach is entirely unsustainable. It hasn't worked, it isn't working, it won't work. First step in the immediate short term? Review business rates changes. It cannot go ahead. That has to change. It has to. Or there won't be any pubs left for Christmas next year.

@TrisOsborneMP Only an extra ~£200 net per employee per month to find then, perfect for the employers this hits hardest. At a time where spending by the public is down, why would you strain the businesses (such as hospitality) which rely on lower paid workers.

Obama prosecuted more journalists using the Espionage Act than all presidents before him combined. He arrested, jailed & tortured Chelsea Manning for revealing war crimes committed in our name. He repealed the Smith-Mundt act which now allows the CIA/FBI to directly propagandize American citizens & infiltrate unions/ NGO’s/school boards/ & organizations of all kinds. He deported 3 million Hispanics & built the cages Democrats protested against under Trump. Obama took us from 2 wars to 7 wars while ramping up the drone bombings killing innocent people left & right. He effectively repealed Habeas Corpus & gave the government the authority to jail people indefinitely without a trial. Obama is a Myth pushed by the establishment & their bought media to make you think there was someone fighting for you while he was serving Banks, Big Pharma, the MIC & his corporate masters.

The failure of the match officials to deal with this on the spot is almost as shocking as the incident itself. The offender should have been sent off there and then with a semi-final place in the balance. A fat lot of good the retrospective justice does for Ireland's women.
