It makes sense to want ash banned. The argument is that its used mostly as a going 1st guaranteed win card. Either its a mini game piece like called by crossout, or its a trap card that backs up your board to make it unbreakable. These are frustrating uses of the card. Using as a going 2nd handtrap to stop their engine is only a small part of its use these days. Yes it ok vs dracotail, and razen, but in general modern decks play through it well enough for it to be considered not a reliable handtrap going 2nd on its own. So most of its use is to autowin as the equivalent of a called by or a solem judgment going 1st, and when it's drawn as a handtrap its barely good usually. Add onto this the fact that it's use as a handtrap, while weak, is still an uninteresting interaction anyway, since all it does is trade 1 for 1 with a starter and simplify the game for both players. If there's an extender, ash and other low impact handtraps usually achieved nothing, making them feel like lottery tickets rather than strategy pieces. So even if the fair uses of ash, its not even fun. It either stops opponents or it doesn't, in a lot of cases. To me this is a good case against a card. Its uses are usually overpowered and unfun. And in the cases where its not overpowered, its still unfun. Another small argument to make is that recycling ash with firewall, arthalion, and sunlight wolf, or searching for it using a Beatrice combo, are all very game winning plays. No other handtrap, besides maxx c, feels so broken to have recycled like this. One of the only broken things people say dracotail has is its ability to recycle handtraps. But let's be honest its only maxx c and ash where that feels cringe. Veiler or nib or magnhut feels fine and interesting usually. This is a small point tho, but still it doesn't help ash's case. A lot of the reason to defend ash i think is just arguing that its not extreme enough to be punished. Its not even like ash is extremely fun or anything. Tldr: it's a good ban.
