@MFollowill I heard you on the Mavs broadcast saying you were driving there after the game. While watching the first half today, I thought of you and how you drove there just to see the worst game! It turned into the best game ever! Unbelievable comeback 👍🏼 so proud of my son’s alma mater!

@BenRogers Nico definitely. Without a question, Nico and the new ownership.

As a Metroplex sports fan, who has hurt you the most: Jerry or Nico? Obviously, Nico made the worst trade in the history of humanity. He traded away the chosen one in one of the most horribly lopsided and shocking “you’ve-got-to-be-EFFING-kidding-me” trades since the Red Sox sent the Bambino to the Yanks in 1919. Jason Kidd: “Some have compared it to Babe Ruth, which is kinda cool.” I mean. That quote alone is insane. After hearing that quote, the commissioner of the league should’ve stepped in and moved the Mavs franchise to Anchorage. Let that little 1919 nugget sink in again. You have to go that far back to find a trade that bad. At that time, movies were silent, TVs hadn’t yet been invented, and antibiotics did not exist. Yep. “Cool.” Even though 77 had just heroically carried the Metroplex to the NBA finals with more Ace bandages than a mothereffin mummy, Nico somehow seemed to believe that AD (over half a decade older than the young global icon) and Kai together gave the Mavs a better chance of winning in the short term. What. I guess ownership was too new to intervene, perhaps out of pure, unfiltered hoops naivety. No consultation with Cuban? No quick phoner to Dirk? Any balance of power whatsoever? Nope. No checks and balances. And so, the unthinkable happened. Thermonuclear heartbreak. And now we’re forced to watch our once-in-a-lifetime basketball savior dominate the league (and our timelines) in purple and gold. Still can’t believe it. Not even close to being over it. It’s an eternal poop sandwich and every day of the rest of our lives we will all have to take a big ole bite. But I would contend that Jerry might actually be worse than Nico in the heartbreak department. Why? Because if you squint really hard like you’re looking into the blinding sunshine at Jerryworld on a bright Sunday afternoon — you can kind of see where Nico appeared to at least have a plan. Granted, the worst plan ever conceived. By anyone. For anything. But Jerry has no plan. He’s straight up wingin it — and his only goal is to hoard publicity. To pour gas on the fire. The ole Arkansas gunslinger. The dealmaker. The ringmaster. The gambler. There is no culture. There is no vision. There is no accountability. There is no plan. And there have been decades of this shit. Growing the brand is the priority over anything else, even winning. Stirring the pot with drama, chaos and meathead sportstalk fodder is what matters most to King Jerry. That’s why he’s besties with Stephen A. Jerry’s circus act is what keeps the Cowboys relevant and keeps that Forbes valuation skyrocketing. It’s way easier to impress TMZ than it is to build a winning franchise. Apparently, all you have to do is be completely full of shit, all the time. We are now 30 yrs removed from winning with Jimmy’s rosters. You could make the case that these past 3 decades of dysfunctional sports torture have been all about ego. About Jerry being dead set on proving he can do it without Jimmy. You could paint Jerry like Ahab chasing Moby Dick, relentlessly focused and utterly obsessed with convincing the world that he can win without Jimmy… all while slowly and methodically destroying and sinking our boat… all for a prize that keeps slipping away. But I don’t think that’s it. It may have started like that. But that’s not what this is anymore. This is simply chaos marketing 101. It’s about keeping the Dallas Cowboys in the spotlight so this huge brand can increase in value and all of the massive celebrity ripple effects that come with that can keep all the other businesses in the Jones empire surfing like Bodhi at Teahupoo in Point Break. We’ve poured 30 years of false hope currency into a franchise that is going nowhere because of a renegade boat captain who refuses to let go of the helm as he smashes us into every iceberg in sight… because it keeps us all talking Cowboys. So… who has hurt you the most as a metroplex sports fan — Jerry or Nico?

If you want to be salty about things and still find the negative, you do you. I’m going to choose to celebrate the fact that there’s a light at the end of the dark tunnel we’ve been living in since Feb 1. Things won’t ever be exactly the way we want them, but we can find the joy in what we’ve been given. COOPER FLAGG OMGGGGGGGG

@KennyBybee My exact thoughts, I’m sure you’re speaking for all of us who gave our hearts to the Mavs. The front office doesn’t have a clue what our team means to us, what we mean to the players, like Dirk and Luka. Loyalty was everything. Dirk taught us that. I’m so heartbroken. Thank you.

For months I have delayed and pushed aside a feeling that I didn't want to admit. But Luka's return on April 9th solidified that I can no longer support a franchise whose personal bond I thought was unbreakable. And it has everything to do with Dirk. @texasrfan/saying-goodbye-to-the-mavericks-i-once-knew-22ddda7c0f44" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@texasrfan/say…

@MFollowill It’s so sad to see how their bad decision affected us all so negatively. Mavs employees, broadcasters, Luka & MFFL’s lives have been changed forever. My heart goes out to the Mavs players, what they have to deal with, but this city is Luka forever. It didn’t have to be this way.

Since a lot of people are tagging me in this I thought you would like to know that Bob and I had a nice chat today on the phone. We both have our opinions on to play or not play the tribute video. But more importantly we recognize where our wires got crossed yesterday. I understand he's not mad at the everyday employees and knows there are lot of good people there who are passionate about the Mavs and working collectively to do the best they can to move the team forward. He understands my view that sometimes they speak in generalities about organizations and real world examples of how people in an entire organization can feel unjustly under fire. So no Ticket Fight Night for you guys who wanted that. I continue to back Bob's support of @TheImmCoalition as a monthly contributor. And onward we go.
Bob Sturm@SportsSturm

I hate if I wasn't clear enough yesterday about the rank-and-file Mavericks employees. My feelings have nothing to do with any of them and they have been placed in an incredibly difficult spot to deal with the public's anger. My ire has been all aimed at the highest leadership positions and while I thought that was clear as could be, perhaps it was not. Most Mavericks employees likely just want their organization back like it was, too. But, alas, here we all sit. Nobody loves having to defend buffoons that we may work for. Again, nothing but love for those dealing with this mess.

A memo to Mavs head coach Jason Kidd: there's nothing "kinda cool" about being compared to the Babe Ruth trade. The Mavs just made the worst trade in the history of sports. And the city of Dallas is never going to forgive it.

@BenRogers We can’t, even if we really want to. I’ve tried everything. Tried watching Luka & the Lakers, can’t do it. Tried watching the Mavs and supporting the team, can’t do it. It’s all too painful because we LOVED this team and Luka and the FO didn’t care.

@dallasmavs @dallasmavs How do y’all not see what you’ve done to this fan base? I have watched almost every game for probably 25 years. I have loved the Mavs, win or lose. What the FO has done is unforgivable. I’m not sure I can watch anymore.
