He’s not a winning player. Period. He can lift a below avg team and carry them into the playoffs. But literally no one cares about just making the playoffs. Winning playoff series and contending for a championship is winning. He only did that when he had a superior player on his team (KD). He was not happy with that role. He made that choice

KD was the alpha. Those guys dont come along very often and don’t take the back seat to players like Russ
Winning a championship isn’t easy. Winning 2 is even harder. Being finals mvp is even harder.
There are some guys who are great players on bad teams. Russ didn’t accomplish anything on those teams other than individual accolades. There’s no participation trophies for making the playoffs. He is an all time great individual player who is one of the biggest what ifs (what if he took a backseat to KD)

KD joined a proven dynasty that probably (and did) win it all without him. So who REALLY adjusted? The dude who took the easy route, or the dude who kept finding ways to scrape wins?

He wanted to be the guy… and KD was on that team. So, ur not the guy. U try to complement KD. Learn to shoot 3s. Play defense. He might have the greatest motor in NBA history and never made a significant impact on the defensive end.
I get it. U work ur whole life and have the opportunity to be a megastar. He went for it. Can’t blame him. But that was not a championship decision

It’s obvious that if he chose the same path as KD, he’d also have a ring. But he chose to be loyal to the franchise that drafted him.

Here’s a Max Christie funfact - he made the exact minimum to qualify for the FT% leaders this season (125). Unfortunately he missed is lone FTA on Sunday to end a streak of 42 made in a row.
That missed dropped him to 89.93%…7th in the league this season and the 8th highest FT% season in Mavs history. He shot 40.4% on 3s, 26th in the NBA. (FT% season and Mavs history leaderboards below)
