@BenthicOrganism Thanks for that info. It will still affect the trees, methinks, because the biosphere is a whole web. What does glyphosate do to the mycelium upon which trees depend?

@MaxDashu No. Their bark protects them. Glyphosate has to get into the vascular tissue to work. It will kill everything with thin and green tissue.

Jeff Bezos thinks people are ‘vilifying the rich.’ Bro, you’re one of the richest people on earth and 1/3 of your warehouse workers rely on government assistance for basic needs like food and rent. You ARE the villain.

This new North Carolina House bill would jail or authorize the murder of women due to their personal use of birth control, such as an IUD, or for having or attempting to have an abortion. Call your legislators. #NCpol HB1232 ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/202…

Here's what the comparison you're raising actually contains, if you follow it honestly. Brazil imported approximately 4.9 million enslaved Africans over the course of the slave trade, more than any other country in the Americas. The mortality rate was so high that the population did not sustain itself, requiring continuous importation until Brazil became the last country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery, in 1888. The United States imported approximately 400,000 enslaved Africans. By 1860, the enslaved population had grown to 4 million. Do the arithmetic. 400,000 people became 4 million through forced reproduction across generations, in a country that had made it illegal to import more. American slaveholders did not work enslaved people to death as fast as Brazilian sugar planters. They bred them instead. They separated families to sell children at profit. They used enslaved women as reproductive assets. They tracked bloodlines and priced people by their fertility and the health of their offspring. They created what historians call the "domestic slave trade", an internal market in human beings, powered by forced reproduction, that was generating more capital by 1860 than all American manufacturing combined. You raised this comparison as though it softened something. It doesn't soften anything. It adds a dimension of horror that the simple mortality rate comparison was designed, by you, to avoid.

@nxt888 Have you compared the rate at which slaves died due to the conditions of their enslavement in the US versus for instance, the Sugar plantations of the Caribbean and Brazil?

I do not understand this economy where nursing homes are so expensive they bankrupt grandparents, yet aides rely on food banks. Daycare can take up a parent’s entire paycheck, yet providers still cannot earn a livable wage and end up needing a second job.

The Administration telling you it’s making America healthy again just made your drinking water less safe. Trump’s EPA rolled back the first-ever federal limits on forever chemicals, stripping protections for four substances linked to kidney cancer and developmental delays in children. There was no new science to justify this decision. Just a White House that looked at decades of research linking these chemicals to cancer and decided that protecting polluters mattered more than protecting your family’s drinking water. nytimes.com/2026/05/18/cli…

🚨WATCH: Teenager who was raped by two teenage boys, who were SPARED JAIL TIME, has spoken out 🇬🇧 “The words hit like a rock, straight in my face - He almost made it seem like what the boys did was not okay, but it was okay, in the eyes of the law, because they were still children.” Absolutely heartbreaking, could you imagine having to go through trauma like that to then be dragged through the courts just for your rapists to let off with a slap on the wrist? A complete travesty of justice.

Erin Brockovich has launched a website and has begun tracking all data centers in America and logging resident complaints In just 1 week it’s already logged 1,690 resident complaints For this who don’t remember Erin Brockovich was the paralegal responsible for winning out a case against PG&E, Hinckley in California, because their wastewater runoff was seeping into rural areas and creating a lot of health issues for, for the surrounding neighborhoods That case brought in a $333 million settlement that went to the families affected by the situation because a lot of them either had staggering medical bills due to their tap water was no longer safe So why is this important, well residents all over America are reporting their tap water and river water is being heavily polluted by data centers Her map of data centers is new, she just launched it The website features an interactive US map showing operational, under-construction, and proposed AI data centers, overlaid with community-reported complaints Residents can submit reports with details, photos, and locations. Within days of launch, it received a surge of submissions over 1,600 in the first week, and reports of 1,800+ from 47 states shortly after Common Resident Complaints Being Logged - Water usage - Raising utility bills for residents - Noise pollution: Constant 24/7 humming from fans, generators, and cooling systems disrupting sleep, daily life, and wildlife. - E-waste from frequent hardware upgrades, pollution including PFAS concerns

Massie says there will be no high-level arrests as long as Todd Blanche and Kash Patel work for the United States government. Massie says Melania Trump knows the truth about Epstein not acting alone. The CEO of BlackRock, Larry Fink, admits that the trillions of dollars being used to build data centers and power grids will come from ordinary people’s savings accounts and pension funds, and says it is mandatory. He says America needs trillions in AI infrastructure spending, and that people will be forced to “invest” in it. “Much of this will come from savings accounts and pension accounts.”

Israel has turned its prisons into a network of torture camps for Palestinians. Prisoners are subjected to severe violence, deliberate humiliation, starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical care and abuse in everyfacility they are held in. Some have also been severely sexually assaulted. Since October 2023, at least 84 Palestinians have died in these torture camps. The policymakers, and primarily Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, brag in TV puff pieces and on social media about what is happening in these torture camps. Today, we published “Living Hell”, a report on the situation of Palestinians in Israeli custody. It is based on the testimonies of Palestinians released in recent months, along with research, reports, news updates and Israel Prison Service figures, and continues our previous report on the issue, “Welcome to Hell”, from August 2024. Systematic, deliberate abuse continues to define Israel’s policy toward Palestinian prisoners in its custody, and is another feature of the Israeli regime’s coordinated onslaught on the Palestinian people. Over a million acres of pristine wilderness lakes in Minnesota. The most visited canoe country in America. Generations of families have paddled it, fished it, camped it. The Senate just sold it out outright. They called it "America First." Then handed it to a Chilean billionaire — so his company can ship the copper to China. The Senate voted 50-49 to gut 20 years of Boundary Waters mining protections. Here's the deal they made. A Chilean billionaire's company digs the mine. America can't smelt the copper — we don't have the capacity. So the ore ships to China. China processes it. Sells it on the world market. Chile keeps the profits. Minnesotans don't even get the jobs. Minnesota keeps the pollution. And Americans get to buy it back from China at full market price. This same company has a documented history at their Chilean mines: pipeline spills, regulatory fines, and locals fighting back for years. They paid a former Trump Interior Secretary $380K. The protection died by one vote. Here's exactly how it happened — and who made it happen. Who do YOU think this mine actually serves? #DemsUnited

The Black Death arrived in England in 1348. Within two years, somewhere between a third and a half of the population was dead. The peasants who survived noticed something within a generation. There was nobody left to work the fields. The labour shortage was so severe that landlords, for the first time in English history, had to bid for workers. The peasants, suddenly possessed of leverage, demanded payment partly in meat. Beef, mutton, and bacon began appearing in the manorial accounts of agricultural labourers' wages. Skeletal records from English burials in the late 1300s and 1400s, set against pre-plague remains, show measurable increases in average adult height. Bone density improves. Dental health improves. Iron-deficiency markers decline. The peasants got taller. The peasants got stronger. The peasants started causing political problems on a scale they had previously been too undernourished to attempt. In 1351 Parliament passed the Statute of Labourers, attempting to cap wages back at pre-plague levels. The peasants noticed. In 1381, well-fed, the same peasants marched on London in the largest popular uprising in medieval English history. The nobility, in the centuries that followed, expanded the Forest Laws. Killing a deer in a royal forest was a capital offence. The Game Laws of the 1600s and 1700s extended the principle. Meat available to the peasant shrank back toward what it had been before the plague. By 1850, the average British army recruit from the industrial slums was so short and so undernourished that the height minimum for enlistment had to be lowered repeatedly to keep the regiments staffed. The single greatest improvement in working-class height and health in English history was caused by a plague that made meat affordable for two generations. The single greatest decline was caused, in significant part, by a political decision to make it expensive again. You can see the whole sequence in the skeletons. The skeletons are in the museums. Go and look.
