The argument would be stablecoins compete against bank deposits, and making them yield bearing would further accelerate deposit flight from commmunity banks. Every deposit that leaves a bank and flows into a stablecoin is lost revenue for that bank. The dollar is no longer on the bank’s balance sheet - they can’t lend it out, invest it etc.

Community banks should be supportive of offering rewards on stablecoin balances - wouldn’t this make them more competitive with large Wall St banks?

In general, love your posts, but this is not accurate. The White House has been super constructive here. They did ask us to see if we can go figure out a deal with the banks, which we're currently working on. Actually, we've been cooking up some good ideas on how we can help the community banks specifically in this bill, since that's what this is about.....the community banks, right? More coming soon.

Areas I'm excited about:
1) Non-USD stablecoins – onchain FX is the holy grail and liquidity for non-USD stablecoins is the bottleneck. Most teams here are too crypto-native, want to see someone take the Circle/Tether regulated route
2) Equity/RWA perps – perps are better financial instrument than options and futures in almost every way. Eventually they will be the most traded derivative in tradfi

Paxos has received approval to convert its NYDFS limited purpose trust charter into a national trust charter overseen by the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Once complete, all US-based activity will be subject to OCC supervision.
