@GameWithTurik @GriffinWB Interesting. They know their stuff and they manage it well. Of particular note: • Skill is not a primary factor in mm • They back off of skill more quickly than other criteria • Skill is essential to team balance • They recognize that a pre-formed party outperforms random

@GriffinWB I thought a spin on SBMM was interesting that my colleague @MaxHoberman brought up from Halo 2: giving the occasional stomp out to serve as a relief valve for constant 50/50 intense matches. Every once in a while you need a win without contest but that obviously also means a loss

I like paper design, and here's proof: design docs for an unfinished @CertainAffinity map for the Halo 2 Blastacular Map Pack. We were making one original and two remakes, but Bungie pulled our timeline in so as to not interfere with the Halo3 beta. Alas. halowaypoint.com/news/digsite-d…

@TheJoValiant @scrubulba @CertainAffinity I remember getting up there to light up the bridge, in playtests. There's no right answer though: the map was a work in progress, still in blockout, mid-iteration when we were compelled to set it aside.

@scrubulba @CertainAffinity The light bridge worked fine: get in that tower, turn it on, it's on for the remainder of the round. I think the base actually needed a bit more playable interior space though.

@scrubulba @CertainAffinity Interesting. What they shared is all there is; it was very much a WIP. We had some fun moments on it, but it was far from complete. I was definitely feeling we'd oversimplified the base a bit, for instance. The ice caves were cool, but could have used a little more interest too.

Oh look at that, a nod to Fourth Station too—a CA experiment resurrecting the Mars Needs Women mp map from Marathon. We had these maps playable, and I have fond memories of playtests on both. I ended up shying away from the latter, however, as it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.
