Just a note about an experiment I’m running… In the past year, beyond the “day job” that is actually being a scientist, I’ve been experimenting with short-form and long-form writing about science and what it’s like to do it at various stages of life.   theimmunebeyond.substack.com

On the science front I’ll be writing about everything from our evolution of custom cancer cures to the smallest pieces of immune cell that you can imagine and how they make us whole. On the personal front, I’ll share stories of joy and heartache that are companions in this life.

My career bumpily took off with a discovery that proved world-changing, and from there, an eclectic, eccentric and fairly entertaining life took shape. The science, the life, the collaborations that make discovery happen—that’s what Immune Beyond is about.

While writing about the evolution of personal identity, the focus is also on the continuously evolving thing that is our immune system.

I tried this out last week. It already feels much better as a reviewer when you are writing directly to the author and towards genuinely improving the quality of the science. It also is cognitively easier (and faster) to do a better job. This is going to be good.
