I am so excited to share our new paper in @Nature: the first programmable, site-specific integration of a large DNA payload into T cells in vivo. A single IV injection results in therapeutic levels of TRAC-targeted CAR T cells in multiple models. #Ack1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nature.com/articles/s4158… a 🧵

The Trump Administration is waging war on universities by suspending their funds. N.I.H. grants to universities are down by more than 90 per cent in the current fiscal year; so far in 2026, the National Cancer Institute hasn’t made a single grant. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/oxA7Ey

Right - and yet the WH is still trying to prevent NIH from sending out funding! This is the best investment we make with public funds! fiercebiotech.com/research/despi…

Excited to see the launch of this collaboration with @USUHS. By leveraging longitudinal blood samples years before diseases occur, we want to identify biomarkers of disease years before symptoms moving medicine from reactive treatment to true prevention. mountsinai.org/about/newsroom…

2. Although most work and attention has been on engineering T cells, macrophages are the most abundant immune cells in tumors and many strategies are now emerging to target these cells Reviewed here sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Our daughters are watching. They are learning what leadership looks like. They are deciding whether their hard work will be celebrated — or sidelined. I’m sharing this photo of my daughter with me at a conference from last week in Colorado, where she watched me present the science from my lab on a big stage. My lab @BrighamWomens @MGBResearchNews is making huge advances towards new cures for cancer. I want her to see women leading, competing, discovering, winning — and being recognized for it. Gold medals matter. Breakthroughs matter. Effort matters. And the next generation deserves to see those achievements honored — without qualification.

Our new Nature study, lead by @yuexing identifies a brief early-life window when skin dendritic cells sense common allergens and trigger inflammation right in the skin without migrating to lymph nodes. We define this in-situ activation state as peripheral immune inducer (pii)DC, and show it emerges because of a still-maturing HPA axis and low systemic glucocorticoids. #Naiklab 👉Key takeaways: 1. Early-life immunity plays by different rules. During this window, innate responses to allergens in skin are heighted. 2. Hormones shape immunity in real time. Developmental neuroendocrine states profoundly tune how the immune system reacts, and can set the stage for inflammatory disease. Thanks our incredible collaborators @niroanandalab @EmmaGuttman @kamalkhanna @Teresalu @Amandalund and others. In collaboration with Jianjun Zhang @MDAndersonNews and others, we prepared an important review on lung cancer prevention and interception, which have become transformative foci in immuno-oncology. A timely follow-up to our work on IL-1 and myelopoiesis! nature.com/articles/s4157…

Very excited about this review on lung cancer prevention, now a major focus of my lab. Prevention can save lives, reduce suffering, and lower health care costs. Academics are leading this effort, and I hope we can partner with industry to drive it forward. nature.com/articles/s4157…

Beautiful study showing that with age brain tissue resident macrophages, also called microglia, drive cognitive decline through a failure to clear damaged neuronal proteins and synapses. doi.org/10.1038/s41586…
