We’re saying goodbye to the Sora app. To everyone who created with Sora, shared it, and built community around it: thank you. What you made with Sora mattered, and we know this news is disappointing. We’ll share more soon, including timelines for the app and API and details on preserving your work. – The Sora Team

I don’t understand why this keeps happening. When exactly has AAA decided that we should have middle management be in charge of game development and have them even represent the game and the studio while apparently thinking that this is what gamers want? I’ve never interacted with Holly Longdale before and she might just be a phenomenal PRODUCER, but she clearly isn’t equipped to talk about the product in an honest way that would get PLAYERS excited. It shouldn’t be that hard for these studios to interact with their fan base in an honest way that makes them feel heard, that makes them feel valued. In a way that lets them know that you have their best interest at heart instead of just seeing your fans as some alien entity that you have to analyze in order to get them to spend. People just want to hear from the folks that are actually in charge of making their experience better. So why create another Kathleen Kennedy type of situation when that approach just literally tanked one of the most profitable IPs ever created? 🤔 youtu.be/WZRCYECgbRk?si…

EXCLUSIVE: Craig Mazin, co-creator of arguably the most acclaimed TV adaptation of a video game to date, HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us,’ will be taking on another hugely popular and acclaimed game title next, Larian Studios’ ‘Baldur’s Gate 3,’ which is set in the world of ‘Dungeons & Dragons.’ Unlike HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us,’ which retold the story from the PlayStation games, the ‘Baldur’s Gate’ TV series will be a continuation to the games, telling a story that takes place immediately after the events of ‘Baldur’s Gate 3,’ as the characters — old and new — are dealing with the ramifications of the events in the third game. Divinity and Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has said that it won’t use generative AI to create concept art or in the process of writing Divinity, but the developer is still interested in using the technology in other areas. videogameschronicle.com/news/larian-ba…

AI consumed as much water as the water bottle industry this year. It also created as much carbon pollution as New York City, according to a new study.

Swen Vincke says the price of RAM and SSDs means Larian will be doing lots of optimisation in Divinity's early access 'that we didn't necessarily want to do at that point in time' pcgamer.com/games/rpg/swen…

Holy fuck guys we’re not "pushing hard" for or replacing concept artists with AI. We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I’m very proud of what they do. I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of Gen AI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn’t say we use it to develop concept art. The artists do that. And they are indeed world class artists. We use AI tools to explore references, just like we use google and art books. At the very early ideation stages we use it as a rough outline for composition which we replace with original concept art. There is no comparison. I talked about how we use ML here if you would like to know more: gamespot.com/articles/baldu… We've hired creatives for their talent, not for their ability to do what a machine suggests, but they can experiment with these tools to make their lives easier.

Larian CEO confirms the studio is using generative AI to "explore ideas, flesh out PowerPoint presentations, develop concept art and write placeholder text." He says there won’t be any AI-generated content in Divinity — "everything is human actors; we’re writing everything ourselves." (Source: bloomberg.com/news/newslette…)

'Divinity' will be turnbased and Larian aims for a much shorter dev cycle than 'Baldur’s Gate 3'. They will not use gen ai (for stuff in the final game) and everything will made by humans. 'Divinity' will be an early access game. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…
