I took a second job at the City of Portland! Just kidding—street maintenance is best handled by our incredible @PBOTinfo workers. I'm so grateful to visit our Kerby facility, discuss our shared priorities to repair, restore, and revitalize Portland, and learn more about the amazing work PBOT does every day. #Portland #PBOT #StreetMaintenance

Today, it was announced that the Estate of Paul G. Allen announced plans to sell the franchise to a group of investors led by Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon. If the sale is approved by the @NBA, per the City’s bridge agreement with the @ModaCenter, the arena lease will transfer to the new owners. The City is committed to working collaboratively with the group of investors led by Tom Dundon, and our public-private partners, to ensure the @trailblazers stay in Portland and have a world-class, state-of-the-art arena to call home for decades to come. We’re excited to come together in partnership to envision this future. Together, we can make this happen. #Portland #RipCity #TrailBlazers Image Credit: Portland Trail Blazers

Dear @NBA Commissioner Adam Silver: We heard you loud and clear earlier this summer when you said you wanted to keep the @trailblazers in Portland under new ownership and made it clear that our arena isn’t up to snuff. The Blazers are in our DNA, and at the center of what makes this community so special. We mean that literally. The @ModaCenter sits near the middle of the city, within reach of every corner. That’s by design, and we want to keep it that way. We also want to be loud and clear that as the Governor of Oregon and Mayor of Portland, we fully support renovating the Moda Center to become a point of pride for the Blazers and for our city. We are prepared to explore the public-private partnerships needed to make it happen. Visit the city’s website to read the full letter. When I see young people at City Hall, I am filled with hope. I recently had the pleasure of meeting these students from Forest Park Elementary School. I am working hard to make Portland a city that these children will choose to call home for many years to come. Thanks to Urban Tour Group’s volunteer program for bringing Portland’s history and civic culture alive for so many students each year.

Alison Bourne and Jeff Bayer coach youth basketball through the city’s Goldenball program. Did you know our Goldenball players say a pledge every game? They say that they’ll work hard to be the best they can be. And they thank their families for giving them the opportunity to play. Last year’s fire at the Portland Mercado struck a painful blow to this cherished hub of Latino culture. Thanks to the leadership of Dr. Ernesto Fonseca and the dedication of Hacienda, we’re proud to share that construction begins May 12th. This marks the next step in bringing back our beloved food carts and businesses—stronger than ever and ready to keep building community. JT Flowers is working on one of the most exciting projects Portland has seen in decades, the @AlbinaVisionPDX, leading the comeback of one of our most historic neighborhoods. He also serves on the TriMet board. And he’s a Rhodes Scholar. Portland is incredible. When we work together, we are unstoppable.

In my State of the City address, I called out some Portlanders I admire... Joe Wiggins was driving a @trimet bus on New Year’s Eve when his last passenger clutched his chest and asked for help. He was having a heart attack. Joe called emergency services and realized the fastest way to get his passenger to care was to take him in his bus. The #14. And that’s exactly what he did. JJ Kunsevi is a senior at McDaniel High School. He leads the District Student Council for Portland Public Schools and co-founded and led the production of the McDaniel News broadcast. Nate Takara works on our reunification program, which helps reunite Portlanders with their loved ones and support networks. Nate helped a man who was stuck on Portland’s streets for three years get a ticket back home and made sure he arrived safe and sound.

I delivered my State of the City address today at Franklin High School. I’ve seen much since taking office. I’ve seen what it takes our dedicated outreach workers to help someone off the streets and back into their mother’s arms. I’ve seen what it takes our law enforcement first responders to run missions to stop human trafficking, shootings, street takeovers, and break up property crime rings. I’ve seen what it takes our economic development team to breathe life back into neighborhoods and business districts. I’ve seen what it takes our leaders and workers to do the hard and everyday work to fill potholes, clean our streets, and keep our water safe. And I’ve met incredible people in every neighborhood, community members just like you who have devoted themselves to making a stronger, better, fairer city. Because of that, I am here to say to you one simple thing... ...the state of Portland is RISING.

Portland's Central Eastside is a vibrant neighborhood where our proud industrial heritage nourishes the technologies of the future. I was honored to join City Administrator Michael Jordan in addressing the innovative thinkers at the Central Eastside Industrial Council. Businesses are vital to our community. Dawson Park is a cherished part of our community and holds a special place in my heart. Today, it was inspiring to come together with leaders to reflect on the progress we’re making toward creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for all. We remain committed to preserving the legacy of Dawson Park and continuing this work.

City of Portland employees keep our beautiful city running 365 days a year. During severe weather, such as the snow this past week, operations ramp up 24 hours a day and extra care is put into keeping the community safe. These photos represent a small, but significant, part of the work – from responding to emergencies to keeping our vehicles running to plowing our snowy streets. It has been a wonderful experience to see our public servants work so well together for a common cause. I am humbled and proud to join the City of Portland team. Thank you to my team members, as well as the efforts of the community, for helping to keep our city safe.

During a visit to a @multco severe weather shelter last week, I met Meadowlark, an emergency services manager with @transitionpro. I am humbled by and grateful to all the volunteers and providers, such as Transition Projects, that have stepped up to provide life-saving support, care, and compassion. "Severe Weather Shelters are a vital resource in our community and provide folks experiencing homelessness with a safe, dry, and warm place to spend the night. We [Transition Projects] are glad to partner with Mayor Wilson and Multnomah County to operate the Hollywood location." - Meadowlark (They/Them/Theirs) (pictured in photo above) You can always find information about shelters and volunteering at Multco.us/Cold.

The Portland metro area is dangerously cold, and these temperatures are sticking around for at least another day. I have been out at the severe weather shelters yesterday and have seen how these resources are saving lives. If you are able, please consider volunteering at an emergency severe weather shelter. I will be monitoring the storm at @PortlandBEM’s command center today and will be volunteering at the shelters in the coming days. Your commitment to your community makes a difference.  We will get through these extremely cold days by taking good care of ourselves, our families and our neighbors. Please stay safe and stay warm.

As a sanctuary city, we are focused on making Portland a safe, welcoming place for all community members. We object to the federal government attempting to defund public safety, infrastructure and other critical services in our city. Portland is obligated to uphold both state laws and our values, and we are prepared to make that case in court.
City of Portland, OR@PortlandGov

Today, Portland joins a coalition of local governments who are suing the presidential administration for executive orders and actions that harm cities and states with sanctuary policies. “As a sanctuary city, we are focused on making Portland a safe, welcoming place for all community members,” @MayorKWilson said. “We object to the federal government attempting to defund public safety, infrastructure and other critical services in our city. Portland is obligated to upholding both state laws and our values, and we are prepared to make that case in court.” The lawsuit, which will be filed today, alleges that recent executive orders and administrative actions illegally harm cities and states with sanctuary policies related to immigration enforcement. Today was a big day. We just announced the addition of 50 beds to the Bybee Lakes Hope Center thanks to our partnership with Helping Hands. These 24-hour shelter beds will serve homeless individuals seeking recovery from addiction. I focus a lot on emergency night shelters, but homelessness does not have a one-size-fits-all solution. Our community has a deep need for 24-hour shelters specializing in opioid addiction recovery, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring hope and recovery to the individuals we can now serve. These 50 new beds will serve a crucial and compassionate role in addressing the crisis we face. There's a lot of attention on the budget right now, which is why I'd like to emphasize the 50 addiction-recovery beds are a 17-month pilot program funded by a one-time grant from a national lawsuit against several companies that played a role in the opioid crisis. Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Center has been doing this for over 20 years. As their CEO Mike Davis says, "Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers has always believed that investing in a person and their recovery will create change." Well put, Mike, and thank you. It was my honor to celebrate Lunar New Year this weekend at the Chinese New Year Cultural Fair and the Vietnamese Community of Oregon celebration at McDaniel High School. Events like this highlight the richness of our city’s diversity. The snake, the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac, represents wisdom, intuition and strategic thinking. This year, the wood snake reminds us to embrace growth, balance and transformation – values that resonate deeply as our city moves into a new chapter. Just as the snake sheds its skin for renewal, we in Portland are embracing change and new opportunities. The renaissance that we all want is within our reach. As your mayor, I am committed to working with you to build a stronger, more connected and prosperous city.

More than ever, Portland must embrace the perseverance, the passion and the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It was my great honor to celebrate Dr. King's legacy with the community at Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church - the hallowed ground where MLK himself spoke in 1961 -- a block from Legacy Emanuel, where I was born. Today, I challenge you. Are you going to be like Rosa Parks and light the spark that changes our community for the better? I challenge you to be like LBJ and open your heart. I challenge you to be like Dr. King and help galvanize others to follow our lead. Every one of us has a role in caring for our neighbors. #endunshelteredhomelessness #mlk #mlkday #weshallovercome
