@DrSarahJWhite On more than one occasion, when an undergrad has found out that I'm married with children, they've congratulated me on "adulting" and accomplishing both a family and a PhD at such a young age. Because they think I'm 24ish. And I'm not sure how to take it!

@alizaluft @lindsallemang It feels good to have “my” name on “my” work. But my two “selves” are starting to feel oddly separate. When I graduate, am I Dr. McArthur but Mrs. Hernandez??

@alizaluft @lindsallemang I legally changed my name, and my daughter took my husband’s too. My maiden name is from a step dad who isn’t in our lives so that made sense. But it’s a strong part of my identity and a connection to family, so I made it my middle name and still use it professionally.

Great thread!👇 I’m teaching a class I taught in person last summer and it’s actually going way better this time. Using the features that are available to us (esp. chat) gives the students more ways to actively engage. Online interaction ≠ low-quality interaction!

There's a moment every morning, after I write before my daughter wakes up, and then during the hour-long morning walk my wife takes with her, when I think hey, yeah, I can do this, I can write AND take care of my kid at home. That's at 9 am. And then there's the rest of the day.
