@McCnnll Didn't mean to insult you, sorry you took it that way. I didn't agree w/ your "I consider professors grownups' comment and said so, it wasn't personal toward you. I consider quite a few of them rather childish.

In the past 9 months, I undertook a series of historical essays about my little East Austin neighborhood, hoping to get my brain out of its ruts. One of them, I kid you not, has ballooned into a 3,000+ word investigative piece about a drainage ditch. I kinda think it holds up. :)

@McCnnll I would *not* make that generalization: A lower percentage might qualify than plumbers; a higher percentage than politicians. But it's a mixed bag.
No need for an apology. But fwiw, my experience is it's not unusual AT ALL for profs to get paid for CJ writing/consulting.

I have no venue for this work whatsoever. It was undertaken specifically to force my brain to think about non-criminal-justice topics and re-jigger my brain patterns. I'm a little old to drop acid, and too square to have those connects, so this seemed like the next best thing.

Don't get me wrong, I tend to really like MIA, but every time I hear that song where she samples the riff from The Clash's "Straight To Hell" I just think, 'godamn that Clash song is so good, I want to hear that instead.' There's just so much to it, a whole rabbithole.
