Excellent work that is very needed @KimberlyBlumen1! We can really improve how we care for our patients with better #allergy documentation in EMR.

@PrestonIgweMD Thank you for this tweet. As a black male pediatric specialist, it is hard not to think like I represent an endangered species. Your representation matters!

A quick story. I’m on ambulatory medicine at the VA. Yesterday I went to get a patient from the waiting room. A Black man who served in Vietnam. When I introduced myself as Dr. Igwe, he gave me a very strange look. I asked if I had the wrong person, but he said “no, that’s me”.

Thanks for this. So, much anxiety out there for peanut exposure in our peanut allergy patients. Extremely unlikely to trigger reactions with airborne peanut protein.

Anecdotes are personal accounts that often generate emotional connections...especially when extreme effects are reported. BUT...they are unreliable. Important details are often lacking. Cognitive bias can alter perception. Great article ⬇️ discussing the many pitfalls

"Tips for Better Thinking: Anecdotes Are Not Reliable" mcgill.ca/oss/article/ti… by @crackedscience via @McGillOSS Our own work has found anecdotes dominate much of public discourse about health. And studies have shown they can overwhelm our critical thinking. Don't be fooled!

This is a must-read. The Black community shoulders the greatest allergic disease burden – with the least support. Change is necessary, and it starts with greater recognition and understanding of the Black community’s experience with #foodallergy and #asthma.  Get the facts 👇

Kudos to you and Nationwide Children’s for the post! Although it can be difficult, talking to our kids about racism is a must. Too often the responsibility of the racism discussion has fallen on people of color alone. Keep up the great posts, your platform matters!!
Dr. Dave Stukus@AllergyKidsDoc

Parents don't have to have all the answers (I sure don't) but we still need to talk about racism with our children. If you're not sure where to start...or how to respond when you don't have answers, please read this excellent post.

Great resource for parents wondering how to discuss this necessary subject, especially now. I wonder if K-12 teachers receive similar education- given their influence on children
HealthyChildren@healthychildren

Children learn about racial differences and racial bias from an early age and learn from their first teachers—their parents—how to deal with and react to these differences. Talking about race is not racist. It's important. Learn how here: ow.ly/71j550zU2ZD

Great video instruction on the often “forgotten” medical procedure: Communication with patients. Very important skill for physicians and other providers to develop while doing Video visits with patients.
