No, he had every right after serving more than 20 years to retire when it was best for him & his family. That’s exactly what he did. If his commanding officer needed him to stay longer, he could have denied the retirement request. Apparently he didn’t. Also by retiring, he freed up a position for someone else in the unit to promote into. Nothing wrong with his decision whatsoever, even if he had known about an upcoming deployment, which he didn’t.

So was Tim Walz supposed to just serve till infinity after he was retirement eligible because his unit might get deployed? Most career military eject at 20 years. Tim did 24.
