Austin city nonprofit contract of the day $450k to asian, hispanic, and black contractor associations to get the word out about contract opportunities with the city Is this still needed w/ the internet? These opportunities are posted very publicly 🤔

The many affinity groups, chambers and contractor associations would struggle to survive without these contracts and they will lobby hard and cite the racial equity arguments of continuing, but we should let the data speak to the value of these contracts. They should have to prove their value with meaningful objective measures

Austin City Council is getting ready to approve a $1 Million contract for design services for improvements to the city-owned property University Park. The city purchased University Park (at 3300 N IH-35 in District 9) last spring for ~$26M. It sounds like they're trying to move administrative offices from One Texas Center and it's also likely they'll bring Capital Delivery Services into the new building. The $1,000,000 contract on this week's agenda is just for DESIGN services with Perkins & Will for interior design, improvements, and furniture design work. We won't know the full cost to actually execute the design vision for several months. So this property is going to appear again on a future agenda.
