On Thursday, Reform UK are set to win upwards of a dozen seats across Scotland. I've written for @RedPeppermag about what that means for a country which swore it would never join the 'race to the right'. redpepper.org.uk/political-part…

Over the past few years, I have been privileged to prepare my doctoral dissertation at the @UniofOxford. Today, I successfully defended that dissertation. I am so grateful to all of you who supported this research — above all, to my brilliant supervisor @benwansell. Thank you 🩷

Jarringly honest report in the FT admitting that it's the "key constituency" of fund managers/the bond market who make or break a prime minister, the rest is just noise

There’s a concerted effort underway to pin Scottish Labour’s defeat on Starmer, creating the space for Sarwar to stay on. It’s worth remembering that the call to run a presidential campaign around a leader with net a favourability rating of -40 was nothing to do with London.

Too much emphasis on “considered” in these MP statements. Not enough emphasis on “departure”.

The Greens constituency victories in Glasgow and Edinburgh mark the first time (I think?) that a pro-independence Party which is not the SNP has won a seat on the 1st ballot at Holyrood. That’s significant.

The SNP’s vote share down in all but two seats. Their lowest constituency share since 2007. A remarkable result after 19 years in power but still a hollow Party benefiting from a deeply divided unionist bloc, winning some seats with as little as 32% of the vote.

David Kirkwood has been elected Holyrood. Unfortunately a Reform candidate rather than a Red Clydesider.
