Vernon Benele Mwamuka; one of the first few black pioneer architects. His work includes some legends attached. Born on January 12, 1955, at Bonda Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe, would go on to become a trailblazer in his field. He began his education at Vengere Primary School in Rusape and later attended St. Augustine’s Mission in Penhalonga for his secondary schooling. His academic brilliance was evident early on, as he excelled in his A-levels, achieving top grades in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. This academic success set the stage for his future in architecture. In 1975, Mwamuka briefly enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe. However, he soon earned a scholarship to study architecture at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Graduating in 1978, he furthered his studies with a post-graduate diploma in architecture in London. His time abroad not only honed his architectural skills but also broadened his perspective, preparing him to make significant contributions upon his return to Zimbabwe. Career and Architectural Legacy Mwamuka returned to Zimbabwe in 1981, eager to contribute to his newly independent nation. He initially joined the Ministry of Construction before moving into the private sector, where he joined Harvey Buff Architects. His talent quickly propelled him through the ranks, and he eventually became a senior partner. Under his influence, the firm was rebranded as Mwamuka Mercuri & Associates, reflecting his growing influence in the architectural community.

NDS2: Pomona Waste-to-Energy Project Progress It is impressive to see the transformation at the Pomona site. Seeing a former dumpsite evolve into a modern waste-to-energy plant and a multi-purpose recreational facility is a significant milestone for urban renewal in Harare. The progress on the Geo Pomona Waste Management project highlights a few key developments: ✍🏽Environmental Impact: Moving away from open-air burning toward encapsulated landfills and waste-to-energy technology. ✍🏽Infrastructure: The construction of the soccer pitches, basketball courts, and tennis courts adds a much-needed green space and sports hub to the area. ✍🏽Energy Generation: The long-term goal of feeding electricity back into the national grid from processed waste remains one of the most anticipated aspects of the project. It’s a clear example of how utility infrastructure can be reimagined to improve both the environment and the local community's quality of life. @GeoPomonaZW @official_MOEPD @mpslswzim @SkillsAuditDvt @myedvt @MoLGPWZim @Min_of_IC @MOECW_ZIMBABWE

A South African woman currently studying marketing has shared her frustration about the job market in her country. She explained that after graduation, she is expected to earn around 40,000, but foreigners are willing to accept as low as 5,000 for the same job—well below the minimum wage. Her concern is simple: How is she supposed to compete and get a job when foreigners are ready to work for far less?

South African politician and leader of that country’s Economic Freedom Fighters party, Julius Malema, delivers a forceful critique of xenophobic and Afrophobic violence in South Africa, challenging the narrative that blames fellow Africans for the country’s economic hardships. He argues that such divisions are not accidental but are rooted in a historical pattern of manipulation, where black communities are turned against each other to distract from deeper structural inequalities and the legacy of colonial dispossession. Drawing parallels with apartheid-era tactics, Malema calls for critical thinking and unity, urging South Africans to confront the real sources of their struggles rather than targeting other Africans. In His Own Words. “After beating up fellow Africans, and you don’t realise that the same people who made you fight each other during apartheid are the same ones who are doing the same. The provinces that are fighting black-on-black violence are the same that did during apartheid. The tribe that is fighting black-on-black violence is the one that did during apartheid. At the center of black-on-black hatred is a state-sponsored and capital-sponsored hatred to distract you from giving you economic opportunities, to make you blame wrong people for your misfortune. There is no Zimbabwe that took your land from you. There is no Zimbabwe that took your tender from you. There is no Zimbabwe that took your job from you. There are no jobs. The jobs Zimbabweans are doing, you don’t want to do them. You are so educated enough to do those slave jobs. Not that you are lazy, you are not lazy, you know your worth, and you are refusing to do those jobs. That is what I am hated for. The people who stole your land are white conquerors, are white colonialists. It is written in books, no Zimbabwean conquered you, no Nigerian conquered you. Why are you turning your back on what is a true reflection of who we are to want to entertain sponsored contemporary politics that seeks to distract you from why you are unemployed? They are moving you away. Apartheid did the same. It made the ANC fight with the IFP so that they are distracted from fighting for the liberation of South Africa. The script is the same. The writers of the script are the same people. Why are you not learning from your history that you are being made stupid, we are being taken advantage of? They are repeating what they did in the past when they went into copper and made us to fight one another in the hostels and kill each other. Same people are doing it today. You are refusing to think. You are refusing to be critical. You are thinking about the next election. If I say this, I won’t get elected.”

Guess who is opposing Dangote’s proposal to build a 1.2M barrels a day refinery in east Africa (Tanzania, Kenya and Congo) World Bank and IMF. : ))) Their argument? it would give monopoly to one company over energy. 1) All the while, French refineries are in almost every oil producing countries in Africa. 2) No African countries could get a loan to build a refinery larger than 400,000 barrels per day (one of the most profitable businesses ever). So the majority are small and struggle for profitability. 3) Nigeria oil had to be exported to Europe, refined and in many cases sold back to Nigeria and ECOWAS countries, under companies like shell and total. 4) it took until a billionaire financed the refinery in Nigeria himself to change part of that production and supply pipeline. And today, after the Hormuz blockade, EU countries are now buying oil from Dangote.
