Live Free or Die Hard (2007) is better than the franchise reputation it gets stuck with. The practical stunts, and the McClane–Justin Long dynamic give it real personality. The fifth film collapsed the brand, but this one doesn’t belong in that category.

Stand by Me (1986) is still one of the best films ever made about friendship. Rob Reiner cast the kids by letting them hang out unsupervised, and the chemistry that came out of those real bonds is why the movie feels so natural.
