Last week, alongside my fellow ward councillors, I met with planning officers to discuss residents’ concerns regarding the Nuralite application and the wider, ongoing challenges surrounding the Local Plan and its implications for Higham. We know that residents are deeply concerned about the proposed volume of lorry movements, the potential impact on local traffic, and fears surrounding the significant quantity of asbestos associated with the site. This application still has a long way to go. However, the three of us will continue meeting with residents and council officers, while also increasing pressure on other relevant statutory bodies to secure the strongest possible safeguards and conditions needed to protect the people of Higham. Regarding the Local Plan, we are working hard on our response to the Regulation 19 consultation. Our starting principle is clear: it is entirely unfair and unreasonable for Higham to bear the brunt of the borough’s projected growth, particularly when this is being driven by the council’s failure to meet the unrealistic housing targets that have been imposed on Gravesham by successive national government. Another major Russian attack on Kyiv last night, the second in four days. My thoughts are with those who lost their lives or who had them changed forever in these horrific strikes. The UK will continue our support for Ukraine at the NATO summit tomorrow.

Another challenging night in Kyiv, with over 50 000 residents taking refuge in metro stations. Saddened and moved to visit a residential site which was struck last night. The courage of Ukrainians is humbling 🇺🇦🇬🇧

Last night, I made representations calling on the Planning Committee of @graveshambc to 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔𝟎𝟐𝟒𝟑, which would have seen The Woodlands turned into a McDonald’s restaurant, with major internal alterations and delivery provision. I am delighted to confirm that the Planning Committee voted unanimously to 𝐑𝐄𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 having a 3rd McDonald's in Gravesend, especially given how close this site is to local schools and the negative impacts it would have had on Woodlands Park. Catching up with fellow ward councillors Helen Ashenden and Les Pearton last night to discuss our responses to a range of ongoing issues affecting Higham and Shorne, including the Nuralite Industrial Estate planning application, highways issues, the Local Plan, and casework.

I am thrilled that #Gravesham will be entering into a formal twinning relationship with the Ukrainian Hero City of #Chernihiv #Чернігів 🇺🇦 🤝🏻 🇬🇧 During my working visits to the city over the past 3 years, I have seen first-hand the extraordinary bravery of the people in Chernihiv and a clear pathway for a relationship between our two areas that is based on mutual collaboration and sharing of knowledge and expertise. Chernihiv is a beautiful ancient city, that like Gravesham has incredible heritage. I am hopeful that the celebration of heritage and culture, and the empowerment of young people will be central to the success of this agreement. Today Chernihiv sadly continues to feel the full brunt of Russian aggression, and we hope that this agreement will act as an enabler for community organisations, schools and businesses across Gravesham to come together in support of Ukraine at this most difficult of times.

Proud to lend my support to a new borough-wide Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for Gravesham. Too many people are being put at risk by the illegal use of quad bikes, off-road bikes, e-scooters and e-bikes. In rural areas, I've seen these vehicles tormenting horses and livestock along our marshes, so I've called for rural taskforce action. This PSPO gives the Council and Police stronger powers to act.
