@iDrSunny It's not just the comparison with medical school. Those exams were the easiest of my adult life. The difficult exams are the royal college exams, FRCA, FRCS and so on. The lack of respect is mind blowing. Dunning-Kruger effect right there. They are nowhere near being doctors.

We live in an upside down world. PAs across the pond (and we’ve heard similarly here) are questioning how many medical students could get through PA training. Apparently topics are possibly more difficult than medical school at times it seems And it’s much more fast paced 🤯

@gmcuk They cannot implement this without the cooperation of doctors. If we refuse to supervise PAs, they cannot work. GMC are not listening. Time for doctors to stand up for patient safety.

Today, we’ve published a report on the outcome of our public consultation on the proposed rules, standards and guidance that we’ll use to implement the regulation of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs). The report: - details the key changes we have made as a result of the feedback received - provides a comprehensive breakdown of all responses - addresses a range of broader issues raised during the consultation. We’ve also shared our findings with relevant bodies across the system to encourage them to act on feedback that relates to their areas of responsibility. We’re grateful to the over 3,000 individuals, including doctors, patients, the public, PAs and AAs and organisations from across the four countries of the UK who shared their views. We carefully considered all feedback, and this will help to make sure that our approach to regulation supports patient safety. The final rules, standards and guidance will be approved by our Council before regulation begins. Read the full report on our website gmc-uk.org/about/get-invo…

@LeilaniDowding For a cow to produce milk she has to have a calf. Have they tested this stuff looking at fertility and congenital abnormality? The research done so far appears woefully inadequate.

The Bovaer “safety” was only done over 90 DAYS!! No long term studies… I 1 study 2 of the cows were euthanised early. (Didn’t say why) in second study reduced ovary size was found but wasnt considered negative. In rats the findings were far worse!! food.gov.uk/research/outco…

@DoctorAngry @doctor_oxford Agreed. One of our previous COOs was prosecuted for manipulating waiting lists to make them look better. Found guilty so simply moved Trusts to a higher paid job. No consequences.

Hospital league tables are nasty, simplistic, retrograde & counterproductive. They will demoralise staff, generate cultures of fear & fail to value all that is unquantifiable in healthcare - kindness, compassion, humanity, discretionary effort. My piece: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@DevanSinha @NickTriggle Why are they surprised? In my trust radiologists don't accept referrals from anyone below CT3 and has to have a requesting consultant's name on it. When are the Gov going to wake up and understand the skill in medicine is NOT DOING THINGS. Unnecessary tests are killing the NHS.

"Doctors in radiology started refusing to talk to me about scans" Maybe bc UK physician associates are not legally entitled to request ionising radiation studies Moreover increasing volume of poor quality referrals is breaking NHS rad depts @NickTriggle bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@SkyNews They did run out. I, with others, started a charity sourcing, making and delivering PPE to hospitals and hospices across the country during Covid. One hospital had run out of visors, gowns and body bags on a Thursday and were due to get another PPE delivery till Tuesday.

@MedicWeary @DrJoFranklin @PatrickMackle4 That is very concerning - have you never been job-planned? That can’t be true. If not, that would also be discussed in appraisals. I am sorry to hear that. Unless, you have never been “named” as the CS but you have been doing the job of one?

Why are NHSE lying to the public & saying they need to replace GPs with non-doctors due to a “GP shortage” when we have THOUSANDS of unemployed GPs right now. There’s no shortage of GPs. Only a shortage of JOBS for GPs. They WANT to replace GPs - the question we deserve an answer to is WHY?! 1) Why are GPs being made redundant & replaced by ppl with SIGNIFICANTLY less training 2) Why are patients’ rights to see a doctor being taken away? 3) Why is this being done without public consent?

@morefluids Infection control need to give their heads a wobble. Single use tourniquets are a joke. They touch skin nowhere near the operating site. There's no infection risk. Lanyards on the other hand...

Single use disposable tourniquets. How many millions are used and discarded in the NHS? Reusable ones ‘banned’ for infection reasons. Be interested to see what happens with these with the Design For Life roadmap gov.uk/government/pub…

A devastating thread from the Covid Inquiry… We didn’t stand a hope in hell if the person in charge of infection control in NHS England themselves didn’t believe (despite a bucket load of evidence) that COVID IS AIRBORNE?!

COVID INQUIRY I’ve posted a number of tweets from the Inquiry hearing on 16 Sept. This was the day that Dr Lisa Ritchie took the stand. She chaired the IPC Cell which wrote the Covid infection control guidance for UK hospitals. I’ve collated all the tweets in this thread 🧵

@BinitaKane @chrischirp I showed local infection control showing covid was airborne. It was like arguing with a blank wall. Local decision makers blindly followed national guidance (which was flawed) and put millions of people at unnecessary risk. Bought my own PPE in the end. Still disgusted.

Important and devastating thread. Hospitals were reluctant to go against IPC guidance. Many of us tried hard to raise concerns, to protect ourselves and others, but ultimately could not effect change because ‘national guidance’.

This is why I can't bear the Covid deniers. They were not there. They did not see the sheer scale of death that we were dealing with. And then the lies upon lies from the Tory government. Government corruption in a time of pandemic. What a combination.
Prof. Christina Pagel - @chrischirp.bsky.social@chrischirp

Prof @Kevin_Fong giving the most devastating and moving testimony to the Covid Inquiry of visiting hospital intensive care units at the height of the second wave in late Dec 2020. The unimaginable scale of death, the trauma, the loss of hope. Please watch this 2min clip.

@Iromg @TalkTV @Keir_Starmer @PeterBleksley Junior doctors work 48-56 hours/week. When every hour of every day has to be covered those hours stack up fast. Suggesting they don't work a "5 day week" is twisting the facts. You could ask why most professions don't work as long as doctors.

Morning Glory is upon us. Loads to discuss from 6.30 @TalkTV - how does Huw Edwards not go to jail? Why is @Keir_Starmer not contrite and when will doctors work a 5 day week? All questions that need answering - this morning with @PeterBleksley

Do you know the biggest reason why the PA programme should be scrapped? Because it's far harder and takes more knowledge and guts to do nothing than to over investigate, do unnecessary tests and put patients through procedures that will not alter their treatment.

@EmergMedDr @Bexb47 @wesstreeting So sad for this lady and her family. The outcome is a farce. What's going to change? PAs still doing things without adequate knowledge or understanding but notionally supervised by a Dr. So the Dr carries responsibility for PAs who are still out of their depth. Ridiculous.
