The Democratic Medical Association (DMA) strongly condemns the shocking incident reported from the Department of Surgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. A PGY-1 resident doctor has reportedly attempted suicide and is currently in critical condition. Reports suggest the step was taken due to a toxic working environment within the department. Even more alarming is that a similar attempt by another PGY-1 resident had occurred earlier. This raises serious questions for the administration of Banaras Hindu University:- • Why were warning signs ignored after the previous incident?
• What mechanisms exist to protect resident doctors from harassment and toxic work culture?
• Why has accountability not been fixed? Resident doctors are not machines. They deserve dignity, mental safety, and a humane working environment. DMA demands:
1)Immediate independent inquiry
2)Accountability of those responsible

Why resident doctors suicide is becoming an silent epidemic in India ? Today my inbox received another case of suicidal attempt by a doctor , 5th such case in a month and this time of PG1 from surgery dept of IMS BHU ,Banaras . The so called top college where people flaunt the society they got admission and later witness how it’s turning a “slow poison of societal Success” The 19 century old monk mindset of “This is how you will become a good doctor” still persists .

The recent notice by the National Medical Commission regarding mandatory onsite compensation for online classes during COVID raises serious concerns. - FMG students did not choose online education — it was forced by a global pandemic, lockdowns, and travel bans. - Changing rules years later is unfair. Students enrolled based on the regulations existing at that time and have already invested years, effort, and huge financial resources. - FMGs already clear screening exams and complete internships in India to prove their competence. - Policy should support future doctors, not create retrospective barriers. - Students cannot be punished for a pandemic they did not create. A medical student Aakash Pandey of BRD medical college on his Scooty was killed by a speeding Fortuner in UP’s Gorakhpur . The hit by driver was so tragic that his body was found hanging on the flyover railing This case is similar to Pune Porsche case but has been suppressed and no media is showing the case of this tragic loss ! This constituency belongs to CM @myogiadityanath and if the matter is not taken up the accused will be released as the FIR only mention his car number and not name. This is how cheap the life of a citizen is in India !

What exactly were the Akash’s fault? 1. He cleared one of the most cut-throat competitions in the country and secured admission to the prestigious BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. 2. He lived a simple and sober life. (1/3)
