My office was informed of a major dumpout near the Walter Wetzel Memorial Triangle in Howard Beach, and we immediately got in touch with our friends at @NYCParks to get it taken care of. It is truly a shame that someone would do something like this. This is a memorial to a hero who gave his life for this country, and someone decided to use it as a place to drop off their trash. Just terrible. Thank you to NYC Parks for your fast response to this issue.

Drawn by the rich oyster beds along Staten Island’s shore, formerly enslaved people settled in Sandy Ground in the 1800s, building what would become the oldest continuously inhabited free Black settlement in the United States. A great landmark to see this Black History Month!
