ది ఒడిస్సీ చూసిన తర్వాత రాజమౌళి ఎప్పటినుంచో తన జీవిత ఆశయంగా చెబుతున్న మహాభారతం గురించి ఒక ఆలోచన తప్పకుండా వస్తుంది.
భారతీయులమైన మనలో చాలా మంది చిన్నప్పటి నుంచే మహాభారతాన్ని కార్టూన్లలో, చందమామ కథల్లో, పుస్తకాలలో, సినిమాల్లో, టీవీ సీరియల్స్లో… ఇలా ఎన్నో రూపాల్లో, ఎన్నోసార్లు చూసి పెరిగాం. కథలోని ప్రతి మలుపు మనకు తెలిసే ఉంటుంది.
అయినా కూడా అదే ఇతివృత్తంతో మరోసారి సినిమా వస్తే ఆసక్తిగా చూస్తాం. ఎందుకంటే మహాభారతం అనేది అంతటి గొప్ప డ్రామా. అయితే ఇదే మహాభారతాన్ని ఒక పేరులేని దర్శకుడు తీస్తే బహుశా అంత ఆసక్తి ఉండకపోవచ్చు.
కానీ రాజమౌళి లాంటి దర్శకుడు భారతీయ పురాణాలను ప్రపంచ స్థాయి కాన్వాస్పై, అత్యున్నత సాంకేతిక నైపుణ్యంతో ఆవిష్కరిస్తే… ది ఒడిస్సీ చూసినప్పుడు కలిగే స్థాయి అనుభూతే వస్తుందేమో అనిపించింది.
ది ఒడిస్సీ చూస్తున్నంతసేపూ ఒక ఆలోచన వెంటాడింది. మన భారతీయ పురాణాల్లోని మహాభారతం వంటి అద్భుతమైన కథను, ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా భారీ మార్కెటింగ్, అత్యుత్తమ టెక్నీషియన్లు, ఊహించలేని స్థాయి నిర్మాణ విలువలతో హాలీవుడ్ స్థాయిలో తెరకెక్కిస్తే ఎలా ఉంటుందో!
రాజమౌళి మహాభారతం అదే స్థాయిలో ప్రపంచ ప్రేక్షకులకు చేరితే… అది భారతీయ సినిమాకు మరో చారిత్రక ఘట్టం అవుతుందేమో అనిపించింది.
అసలు మహాభారతంలోని ఏదైనా ఒక స్పిన్-ఆఫ్ను క్రిస్టోఫర్ నోలన్ తెరకెక్కిస్తే ఎలా ఉంటుందో అనే ఊహ కూడా ది ఒడిస్సీ చూస్తున్నంతసేపూ కలగకుండా ఉండదు.
