Emanuel Lasker held the World Chess Championship for 27 years (1894 to 1921). No one else comes close. Not Fischer. Not Kasparov. Not Carlsen. Twenty-seven years as the best in the world. Is he the most underrated World Champion ever? Drop your pick #Chess #ChessHistory

A spuntarla erano stati i losangelini. 📂 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚̀ 𝐥𝐚 𝐅𝐢𝐟𝐚? 🔚

Even if Hikaru decides to play, Abdu needs Alireza to register too. Because in a Hikaru but no Alireza situation, @rpraggnachess can just choose to not play World Rapid and qualify to candidates. Very fine margins.
Chess Numbers India@chess_insights

I think I have done the math. If Hikaru doesn't play World Rapid, @rpraggnachess is officially qualified to candidates. If Hikaru plays, then Abdu can still catch Pragg winning both World Rapid and World Blitz.

"Looking at a bunch of exciting tiebreak games can cure a lot of conditions including morning tiredness. I love watching the World Cup and especially the first few rounds when you have tiebreaks galore and a lot of upsets. This is great!" - @MagnusCarlsen #FIDEWorldCup2025

@EmilSutovsky PS When asking for Elo average to qualify for FIDE events, with a minimum number of games played, you should only count games with a maximum difference of rating opponent of 400 Elo points.

@EmilSutovsky Talking about > 2650? 36 games (more or less 4 Tournaments) Opponent Elo max -400 1 Elo point less for each game played less (so at most he loses 36 points) Example, Carlsen would be losing 21 Elo points if he decided not to play any games until the end of the year

FIDE questionnaire was sent to 150 players couple of days ago, and we already got few dozens of answers. We expect to collect 100+ replies by the next week, and then FIDE will review it all before taking a decision if to change anything, and if yes, how to change it. Meanwhile, you are welcome to share here your opinion on the most critical questions: Do you think the ratings for top players shall decay? Shall there be a rating decay, what should be a minimum of classical rated games per year? What shall be a minimal average opposition for that player to count towards the total (no minimum/his own Elo minus 200/minus 400). Shall this minimum not be reached, would you find it fair to deduct rating points (if yes, how many)? Or maybe use a higher K-factor, but only for their negative results? To remind everyone: today it is enough to play one rated game per year in order not to be considered inactive. And even if you are inactive, and then resume playing, you get back with the same rating. Do you feel it should be kept like that?

As people write that Blübaum deserved to qualify, I generally agree and it is not what I want to discuss. But if we agree on the premise that it was deserved, why are we OK with it depending on the result in Erigaisi-Keymer? My point is that Swiss are too random.
