In an interview with GMA Integrated News on Monday, December 9, Duterte explained: "Pagkakaintindi ko sa explanation ng mga abogado ko sa investigation ng NBI, ay puwede namang hindi pumunta. 'Yun ang explanation nila dahil puwede naman mag-submit na lang daw ng sulat o affidavit, depende sa aking desisyon o position paper. Tapos, pangalawa, mayroon kaming thanksgiving na mga activities sa December 11. At pangatlo, pagkatapos ng thanksgiving activities namin, ay pauwi din ako dito sa Davao City para maglibing ng uncle ko." The NBI rescheduled Duterte's appearance to December 11 after receiving a letter from her lawyer, Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim, requesting a reset. NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that Duterte had not proposed a specific date and that the agency had set the new schedule. Duterte was subpoenaed after admitting to contracting an assassin to target President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were assassinated first. The postponement of the NBI hearing coincided with the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability's decision to delay its investigation into the alleged misuse of PHP612.5 million in confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education during Duterte's tenure as education secretary. Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, the committee chair, cited the NBI inquiry as the reason for the deferment.
