I once had a full-time job… chasing a girl who never even advertised the vacancy. For two solid years, I was out there submitting applications, doing overtime, bringing premium effort, while she kept me on a permanent “we’ll get back to you.” No yes. No no. Just vibes and a dangerous amount of hope for a whole solid two years. Eventually I scheduled my own final interview. Cornered her like HR on a deadline and said, “Be honest, am I hired or what?” She looked me dead in the eye with a tantalizing smile and said, “You don’t have a sweet tongue.” That was the day it clicked. I wasn’t the candidate. I was the unpaid intern.😀😀 But here’s where it gets strange………… I never really stopped thinking about her. Every now and then, she’d show up in my dreams, usually going through a rough time, reaching out like life had finally put her on hold instead of me. At some point I was worried my wife would hear calling out her name in my dream😂🤷🏽‍♂️ Fast forward years later, I’m back in Zim, and something in me says, go find her. So I did. Tracked her down through an old school contact. Ended up in Nketa, where she was living with her kids. We sat down, and I finally asked the question that had been pending for years: “Two years I chased you, why didn’t you ever like me back?” This time, the answer was softer. “Ngangimncane, ngangikakwazi.” (I was young, I didn’t know any better.) I changed the subject immediately to avoid funny emotions creeping in😀😀 She opened up about everything that had happened since. Rough relationships, a failed marriage, three kids, life doing what life does. I just listened. Felt the weight of it. Gave her a hug, left a small $US gift, and said my goodbyes. And strangely, that was it. That two-year rejection finally closed. Years later, in a moment I didn’t even plan. It’s been 14 years since that meeting, and not once has she shown up in my dreams again. Now I’m here wondering…….. has anyone else ever experienced something like that? Or did my subconscious just finally clock out of its unpaid internship? 😄🤷🏽‍♂️ Am I the only one or we are many?

Although nothing had happened, I decided not to mention it to wife, who being a suspicious person, could be very jealous. Later that night, my wife and I were driving home in the car when I spotted a single high-heeled shoe under her seat. When she wasn't looking, I picked up the shoe and tossed it out of the window. Later, as we got out of the car at home, my wife asked, "Honey, have you seen my other shoe?" The life of a husband is so complicated!

I look at my scar from the screen of my phone and all I see and feel is pride. A scar so small yet mighty. It shows the strength that abounds in me, even in my subconscious. Good evening. Quick one: Is Lusulu in Binga or Lupane? In my story I wrote Lupane, but here’s what I remember. First time going to see my father, we boarded an F. Pullen bus from Hwange and got off in Lupane centre. From there, we waited for another bus from Bulawayo (red and white). That one was heading to Lusulu. We crossed Shangani River, went further, and got dropped off at Masebebe (Kana 6).( Emaguswini) I was told Lusulu was just ahead from there. So, those who know the area well, am I right or about to expose myself as a storyteller? 😅😅

Someone asked what happened after the wedding: After the wedding, we went to church the next Sabbath like two people reporting for judgment day 😅 We expected side-eyes, whispers, maybe even a small “disciplinary committee reunion.” Instead? Everything was normal. Announcements time: “Let’s welcome our newly wedded SDA couple.” Church: AMENNNN!!! 🔊 Me in my head: “So, what was all the fuss about last week?” 🤣 Just like that, the 5-year censure vanished like airtime after one WhatsApp call. Now, that 5 years wasn’t random. Back in 1996, I was Deputy AY Leader when the pregnancy news surfaced. Before rumours could run faster than kombis, I reported myself. Yes, self-snitching for Jesus. 🙏🏾😂 I stepped down, confessed, and chose to face it head-on instead of disappearing like some people do when life gets hot. Result? Demoted from stage to permanent backbencher status. No singing. No presenting. No mic. Just vibes and silent repentance. For 5 years, I was basically a “spectator Christian.” My saving grace? Apprenticeship job - Sabbath half-day shifts. So I only attended afternoon services. My wife? She carried the full load. Every Sabbath. Pregnant. Same light blue maternity dress for months. Buttons fighting for their lives by month 7 😭 Eventually we upgraded to a 2-piece.( Photo below) Budget said: “This is the final boss outfit.” 😂 Still, she never missed church. Sundays? AY programmes together with a growing bump and growing faith. Most youths showed love. A few tried comedy at our expense. One comment still lives rent-free in my head to this day. We arrived late one time. “Lazo lezi izilima zenkosi” I’m told one youth joked as we approached the church gate. Years later in 2012, we visited the church from New Zealand, same people wanted selfies and vibes. Life is funny like that. Anyway, Elders had two suggestions back then: 1.Go and make things official with her family ✅ 2.Go to court and wed immediately❌ Number 2 didn’t sit right with me. I had already promised her a proper wedding after apprenticeship. That promise wasn’t expiring because of pressure. So we declined. And that’s how we served the full 5-year sentence like disciplined citizens 😅 Fast forward: We finally wed. Next Sabbath - Censure lifted. No ceremony. No announcement. Just gone. Just told “You can go and sing now”. So I went up the front like a listening church member. Back on stage. Back in all 3 singing groups 🎤 (My wife joined hers too, power couple loading 💪🏾) From Hwange - New Zealand - Australia Still serving. Still singing. Still standing. These days? FIFO life means I get ONE proper Sabbath a month to fully plug in. But the prayer remains the same: “God, when the time comes, I’m ready to serve fully. Don’t try to put me through another censure for not keeping the sabbath holy. Its a conscious personal decision. Comfortable with it. Moral of the story? Life will humble you. People will talk. Systems will test you. But if you stand your ground, keep your faith, and honour your word, Even a 5-year “sentence” can end with a standing ovation. @Tom97015598 It’s been a year. It will be about 5yrs total before the resort is complete. It will be done on my 50th birthday. All the fruit trees will be grown. Modern huts. Camping area. Country club , etc.

I have seen the spirit of giving alive in the rural setting. People , who many on here, would call “Poor” , noticed this was our first year on the ground, so everyday we get gifts of Nyimo, Nzungu, Avocados, Mangos, Chibage… it’s very very humbling. People without a “dollar” to their name have given us more “VALUE” than any of the Gazillionaires in my phone book.
