@VartioArtel That's fair, i'm just seeing way too much of this discourse imply that those strategies were all yata locks or OTK level stuff.

This has not been true in the entire history of this game. You don't miss Yu-Gi-Oh, you miss being 12.

I love Yu-Gi-Oh. But, I miss Yu-Gi-Oh. I miss the super edgy anime, where the protagonist was going to die horribly unless they could justify destroying the moon to drain the tide. And you sit back and go "damn... Why didn't I think of that?!" Now there is no edgy anime. More than that, I miss a card game that was simple. I would activate my trap card and my opponent would go "No!" I would summon a monster, set a card face down and end my turn. Now there is 40 steps to a turn, requiring me to remember at least 1000 words of effects of cards in my hand, deck, extra deck, and graveyard. I miss, opening a pack and actually be able to do 'something' with every card (yes, skull servant sucks but, I can still use him). As opposed to modern packs where I open a pack get 5 cards that reference and require 30 other cards that I don't own. Making them all worthless.

@VartioArtel My circle were also onto lv 4 and 6 beatsticks but we didn't have the more expensive and top tier stuff. We had 1800 attackers like La Jinn and Dark Blade 😂

@VartioArtel The fanbase was way bigger with a bigger portion of them being anime fans, and very casual players. If you had friends who attended events or shops you probably got exposed to those strategies, but many played in ignorance.

@FredHFreak Casual players didn't have the cards or enough fusion monsters for the combo. Why do we gotta act like meta is the only thing that exists. Plenty of casual players in 2026 too.

@goblinbiker it's probably because the overall child experience was more fun and memorable for some people. My experience at ygo locals is rarely fun. I feel like I just get harassed because i'm playing some rogue deck they don't know or criticize my list when I try anything remotely meta.

@Meizaur1124 @TheFonzPart i've played yugioh since i was 13. i played playground then switched to playing online during the dragon ruler era. playground and actual yugioh are practically different games. yugiboomers don't miss normal summon vanilla pass, they miss being a child

@Krojak_YGO A lot of people grew up playing the yugioh video games too. That's a valid yugioh experience and you don't get to dismiss that as never having played yugioh just because it wasn't the paper game at official events.

Im sick of people hating on yugioh despite never ever played yugioh. Why is it always yugioh. Where are the non mtg and pokemon players hating on the game they never played.

@NagatoYamiyo we had a kid at my school who played Aliens too and his turn 1 took half of recess. Shit like that is why a lot of us started hating ehat ended up becoming modern combo

@izanagi2345 @theskulled I'm sorry my experience wasn't to your liking... But that was my experience from high school onwards...
Between the reading, explanation, and the length of the combo that would easily take 10min which is when in HS only dueled on Wednesday cause Mr. Alien deck took that long

@soulsliced I used to farm bozja duels and from the 99 sacks per duel I would get half a dozen pure black/white if decently lucky. Either these people farmed hard or did market flipping.

@maidpurgatory ARR had a lot of meaningful exploration. The curiosity of finding out about the world was so exciting. Don’t really understand what changed, but I kinda wish they would lean much harder into that style for future expansions.

本日のADHD固定消化なんですけど武器箱取ったナイトが直泥踊り子武器つるちゃんしか踊り子しないしいつるちゃんでいんじゃない～？という話が出ている中何故かグリードされて持っていかれました😅しかもつるちゃんが大発狂しているなか半笑いで『ごめん間違えちゃった😄』と言われたので固定解散しました。
いつも諦めることばかりの人生だったし武器もしかたないって諦めれるけど散々固定作ってくれてありがとう😆とか感謝の言葉を述べていたくせに私の事は本当にどうでもいい存在だったんだなという事が悲しいです。ADHD固定らしい終わり方で面白かったしまあいいか #ADHD固定
