Brionna Johnson was told she would have to end her pregnancy and undergo a hysterectomy. Instead, a 27-pound fibroid was removed while preserving her pregnancy and her ability to have children. Too often, Black women face limited options or are not heard. This outcome shows what is possible when patients are listened to and given real care. Equity in maternal care is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

In 1893, Frederick Douglass invited Ida B. Wells to lunch. She noted a place across the street, but indicated they would not receive service there. “Mr. Douglass, in his vigorous way, grasped my arm and said, ‘Come, let’s go there.’” Together, they “sauntered in...as if it were an everyday occurrence, cocked and primed for the fight if necessary.” Douglass grabbed a table and chair for him and Wells, as “paralyzed” staff looked on. A stand-off ensued with wait staff until the proprietor realized it was Frederick Douglass, and warmly welcomed him while sharing stories of a time past when Douglass visited his hometown. “When [the proprietor] finally went to another part of the room, Mr. Douglass turned to me with a roguish look and said, ‘Ida, I thought you said that they didn’t serve us here. It seems we are getting more attention than we want.’”
Frederick Douglass spent his life fighting for justice and equality. He never knew the date of his birth. This is something he struggled with throughout his lifetime. Douglass believed that he was born in the month of February in 1817. In fact, records show that Douglass was born in February of 1818. He chose the 14th of February for his birthday because his mother would call him her “little Valentine." Unfortunately, Douglass never knew much about his parentage. His mother, Harriet, was sold off when Douglass was but a child, and he only met her a few times before she passed away. Though born enslaved in Maryland, he escaped as a young man and became a leading voice in the abolitionist movement.

Before she made history in space, Dr. Mae Jemison served as a Peace Corps Medical Officer in Liberia and Sierra Leone from 1983-85.
On International Day of Human Space Flight, we’re honoring her path from Peace Corps service to becoming the first African American woman to travel to space and congratulating the Artemis II crew on their successful mission and safe return to Earth.
Welcome home, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. 🚀🌎

.@DrewHill_DM writes: "Do you want to know how the Toronto Raptors spent their random bleeping Thursday in Memphis? They went to @StJude . You know, that world-renowned children’s research hospital that has treated patients from all 50 states and around the world for the last 61 years? The place where families never receive a bill, not for treatment, travel, housing, or food — so they can focus on helping their child live? Yep. That place." …for a handful of wealthy NBA players who claim to care about black lives and black entrepreneurship. But we know having premium spa access takes priority, isn't that right @KingJames, @anthonyedwards, @KDTrey5, and the rest of you wealthy players who don't have a real clue?

Mr. @KingJames is quick to dismiss the NBA market with the largest % of African-Americans, but clearly loves the culture that market produces.
Yeah, Memphis doesn't have a five star hotel and needs one. Sounds like a good business opportunity…

In 2022, Zach Randolph wrote about his love for the city of Memphis: “Listen man, Memphis is one of the most underrated cities in the country. They have so much underground talent in that city that hasn’t even been tapped yet. I know that for a fact. Memphis has so much creativity and history, just on the music side, from the blues to Isaac Hayes, to even Elvis.
There’s no denying it’s a cultural city.
But it’s a hard working town, you feel me? With blue collar, hard working people.
It has its tough spots and rough moments, but the thing that makes Memphis special is that they accept all their people. People who got knocked down and got up resilient. People who ain’t got the prettiest journey story. Bottom line is, you can be you in Memphis — you don’t have to act a certain way.
So when I got there, I felt like I fit right in.” playerstribu.ne/ZBo

Yesterday @brianglenntv and I had to change our travel plans because TSA lines were 4-5 hours long at the ATL airport and we would have missed our flights.
So we drove to Memphis because Brian had to be there today and I had to change my flight, thankfully Memphis worked for my destination.
It took us 5 1/2 hours to drive to Memphis, almost the same as TSA lines in Atlanta.
And this morning I flew out of Memphis airport and there was virtually no line in TSA.
Two totally different worlds and airport experiences.

I did not campaign for this.
I did not donate money for this.
I did not vote for this, in elections or Congress.
This is heartbreaking and tragic.
And how many more innocent will die?
What about our own military?
This is not what we thought MAGA was supposed to be.
Shame!

The Howard University College of Medicine remains fully accredited.
The recent LCME notification includes probationary, which means close monitoring, related to documentation and measurable outcomes until the 2028 review period. Our students’ degrees remain valid, and our ability to educate and graduate physicians has not changed.
For 158 years, we’ve advanced health equity and trained leaders in medicine. That work continues with rigor and without interruption. We are confident that the progress already achieved positions us strongly for the next review cycle.

Might be time to let this @AmericanExpress card go. Was overseas last wk & nearly no one took it! Then in the US, the lounges make up excuses about why I can come in, even after registering for the waitlist, which is stupid. I push too much money thru this card to get no value.
